I received an email from classic stating 20% discount. I thought GREAT, I'll order my magnaflow exhaust. They wanted $116.80 for shipping. Takes care of the 20% loss I guess. I'll buy elsewhere. Just venting

I just purchased new seatbelts from them using the 20% discount. After shipping is added in I'm only saving about $10. But guess what? ------- backordered.

Have any of you compared their shipping costs to other suppliers? I have another order to get filled but would like to save money too.

Just ordered window moldings and tail light gaskets from Rick's, nailed me for almost $40 bucks for normal 5 to 7 business days ground shipping.

the same magnaflow kit at summit is free shipping (usual 11.95 handling fee), guess I'll buy there.

A few years ago when I took advantage of Classic Industries 20% discount they were also offering free shipping for > $1K orders. I had two orders that more than met that criteria and even though Rick's is 1.5 hours away, I ordered from Classic Industries. I can see your reluctance to pay their current shipping costs.
I must say that they took care of me when I had complaints with the repo door panels and the front bumper guards. The fixed the problem in both cases.

I have used the 20% off thing a few times, but there's always a catch. Anything called a kit...no discount. Some items that might be a popular sale item...no discount. You have to look closely at the catalog to avoid being disappointed at checkout. Last $2500 purchase I only saved about $200 with the 20% off coupon. But heck, it WAS $200 saved so I can't complain too much. I have learned though that I am much better off waiting for the local big car show/swap meet to buy from other suppliers. No sales tax and often a volume discount much better than Classic. Some folks will say that the car show items are blems and second hand stuff, but I have had extremely good luck and have not had any issues.
2 weeks ago I went to ABS to purchase a new master cylinder/booster combo since the sand blaster ruined my brand new one. I was quoted around $375 out the door for the 10" double booster (Corvette style) with the MC and valve and everything. I then went to the Long Beach show Sunday and bought the same unit, from the same store, for $210 total.

I have never heard of any kind of swap meet around here so I guess that is out. After looking through the catalogs I do have and comparing both purchase price and shipping price together, it looks like they are all pretty much are equal. I guess I will go ahead and get my order in to Classic in time to get the 20% discount.

Yup, I had to quite doing bussiness with them because of the shipping, try Summit Racing. I just bought a hurst shifter, hays pressure plate and a complete exhaust for my 67. The shipping was like $12.00.

I've had good luck with Summit too....it seems like they are charging actual shipping costs instead of making a profit on the shipping.

I buy most of my parts like that from Jegs. I have never had a problem with returns or had to backorder.

Ricks is closer for me so I prefer to go with them. I called and they agreed to meet the Classic price 20% discount on parts that are provided by the same vendor, for example OER. They also gave me 10% off on some other stuff in my order. So Rick's always gets my first call.
Summit has been good for me too. I dont think I've bought from Jeg's before.

I've ordered from Jeg's many many times. No problems. Great service.
I don't like C.I. because of the freight/handling/and surprise insurance charges you don't ask for but they charge you anyway.

Firewheel Classics is my first choice, Ground Up, NPD, Rick's, Paddock usually about that order........

I just purchased $338, 20% off took it to $268 and shipping took it back to $307.

I don't think they have one running currently. Last one ended June 30th. They have them several times a year. I'd guess mid fall (Sept - Oct) for their next one.

Rick's is offering a 15% discount through end of today. Discount code is "SHELL".

I've had the same experiences with ordering from Classic. Anything large or good is discount exempt so I buy my big resto parts from Rick's or Steve's, hard parts from Summit.

Thanks RJ - I appreciate it. I ended up going w/ Classic only because Ricks didn't have some of the parts I needed, and shipping between the two places would have eaten up the savings. But, I appreciate the help - it would saved some good coin!

Thanks

John are you using the Classic credit card? If you use their credit card you get 15% discount any time you order.

Roger - No, I've always tried to stay away from store credit cards, for some reason they scare me. Might have been worth it this time around though. Dang.

Classic's shipping is grossly and dishonestly inflated... I just ordered a bunch of bezels and nuts and other items for my dash switches and rubber bumpers for the glove box door. Seriously all of the parts would fit in one hand, but they seem to have applied a item by item shipping charge and it came out to be 29 bucks worth of S&H for about 6oz. of stuff... That is ridiculous!!! I can't tell you how much I want Summit to get into the resto parts game, every single time I order from them I have my items at a VERY affordable shipping charge (usually about 11 bucks) and I ALWAYS have my items within 4 days. Classic Industries should really take a lesson from Summit instead of seeing S&H as their number 1 inflatable profit stream....

Oh yeah, and the time I wanted to use my discount code on an interior kit... sorry no go there. What a joke...

Yes venting, just tired of being the arse end of a predatory business practice!

Just got my card yesterday also, PS1761. From the looks of this, I could make a decent living (side job) just going to Classic over by me and buying the stuff you guys need, then shipping it to you myself for 1/2 the cost...lol.

Of course, with the ridiculous 8.75% sales tax here (or worse) I mIght lose money. Do you guys have to pay any sales tax when you order from them online? I know some companies with multiple state locations charge it even if you aren't in their state. Is that legal?

Not to vendor bash but I ordered a brake hose and 4 bolts from a vendor in Illinois and they wanted $24.00 shipping. I said forget it.

I guess I'm lucky I have a local mom and pop guy that charges the same as catalog prices for the big vedors. That sounds like no great savings until you buy a door shell, or a hood, or a roof, or something and he charges no shipping. The stuff is the stuff from the big vendor, its just shipped to him in bulk. Plus, I get to rummage through the junk he has on his shelves, tucked away in secret rooms and has horded for 20 years. Only problem is he always has something I "need". Everytime in in there he has found something I've got to have for my car. Lol, I frequently call him the "crack dealer".

Has anybody else noticed shipping prices went up when the gas prices sky rocketed a while back and never came back down? I mean I understand completely that if UPS is charging you more to ship, then I gotta pay more. But if gas is back down I expect the shipping cost to drop back too.
