Guys,

New here to the site, I am active on Team Chevelle (with my 66 Chevelle convertible) but have a new member of the family - I have a '71 Firebird Formula 400 that I am restoring (I know, its not a Camaro but the Firebird guys dont have a site as good as this one) I bought it in non-running condition (its from California originally) and am trying to figure out why there are so many fuel lines. Here's what I have:

1 fuel line going from drivers side tank to vent box(?) behind rear seat, then up to the firewall, dumps out by brake booster

2 fuel lines going from passenger side of the tank to the vent box(?), back down, then mounted to passenger side of frame rails, continuing all the way up to the front wheel area, then drop under the engine and dump out just ahead of the engine, drivers side.

Can anyone help me identify these lines so that I know what is what?

Thanks and sorry if I am posting in the wrong area.

Brian

Very strange...You sure some of them aren't brake lines? Especially the one that dumps out behind the brake booster?

Welcome to the Club! Your car is equipped with Evaporation Control System.
Drvr side is vent lines. Pass side line is supply line.

The extra tank is a vent tank, a separator tank. The one line going up front drvr side would connect to a charcoal cannister, then through purge valve operated by a ported vacuum nipple on the carb, the fumes are sucked out and burned. This method began in CA in 1970 and was installed in all cars in 1971.

Thanks!
Now for the next question: would I be better off if I did not use all of these extra lines? Perhaps I could just use the main supply line and thats it?

Probably.
