Hey Guy's I have come accross a Mallory H.E.I. Hyfire Ignition box part # 29029 used!The box & wiring appears to be almost new was suppost to have been run fo a few minutes till the kid's Dad came home & made him take it of of the Family Olds. What is it worth? & will it make any difference in my car? (67 Camaro 396) Hey does the box need to be mouneted on Insulators or does it just mount solid & ground thru the ground wire??

Hey I just hooked it up i came complete with the instructions! The engine would start when I would hit the key & would stop as soon as I let off! Then smoke came from in the area of my dist. I remove the box & hooked up my dist as before & my engine runs fine, what's wrong?

I checked the box it reads good! What caused the smoke from around the dist area? & why would it quit when I let off of the key? I disconnected the box & hooked my dist back up & the car runs fine I would really like to use this box if I can get it running right! Help me if you can give me something to look for! thanks Johnny

Did you hook the ignition box to the 12v crank wire and not 12v key on power. I know I did that once. Motor would fire while cranking and shut off when you let go of the key!. DUH!

The box has two plugs one goes to the dist & the other plugs in the plug that comes out of the dist. the wiring digram shows how to hook the wires to the box, I hooked up the box according to the instuctions. Do you know if the box needs to have insulators between it & the firewall? I mounted it directely to the firewall with no insulators. Could this be my promblem?

I agree with Mark. You have hooked the box's power feed to the ignition key. The ignition key should be hooked to the start retard wire. The power feed needs a full 12 volts at all times. Check this out. Take care. BTW, the insulators are NOT the problem.
