View Full Version : '69 Z checking in from Durham, NC
Richard Cranium Mar 28th, 09, 02:56 PM Just to clarify up front.....the car is my father's. I've got the pleasure to drive it over the years (he has had it since he returned from the Desert Storm in '91).....and I also do most of the work on it.
Here is a little history, along with the current setup the car has: car was bought with about 10 years on a body-off resto job. The car had been run in Super Stock for a good 10 years of its life previous to us getting it. It is a real Z, originally a single 4bbl 302. Unfortunately, the 302 was grenaded on the drag strip. So when he picked it up, it had a fairly warm 355 with some Bowtie heads. That motor was run the last 3-4 years at the strip......before my dad picked the car up. It ran great.....really strong, but developed a rod knock. Not too long after that, the 355 was done.
Myself and a co-worker of mine at the time, dropped in a ZZ4. We threw in a Comp Cam (I'll have to find the card), Centerforce clutch, Hooker Comp headers with JetHot coating, and a few other goodies. We've also got FloTech cutouts with some QTP electric cutouts mounted up.
The car is Corvette Torch Red. Originally (by VIN) it was Daytona Yellow with a black vinyl top. It was already red when we got it, so it has a fresh coat of red on it now. Maybe one day it will be yellow again. :) I believe the seats are '68, since there are no headrests. Black and white Houndstooth, Rally pack gauges, 4 speed Muncie.
Here are a couple pics. :beers:

SPARKY69 Mar 29th, 09, 11:24 AM Welcome to team camaro from over here in western north carolina!! Nice rides!!
Richard Cranium Apr 15th, 09, 02:20 PM Thanks for the welcome. :hurray:
I guess I can give a history of my Camaros....didn't even cross my mind. I'll get some pictures up tonight. I've only owned 2 personally, but the car I miss the most was my '97.
My first Camaro was a '95 Z/28. It was bone stock.....A4 tranny. Enjoyed it thoroughly, then ended up wrecking it and selling it. Shortly after graduating high school, I got a job and IMMEDIATELY fell in love with my next Camaro.....upon sight. I pulled into the dealership (ironically where I work now) and saw a line of 11 Camaro SS's. They were all 1997 SS's, silver with black '30th' stripes. These were "Hendrick Edition" cars.......as it was also Rick Hendrick dealer. Within a week I was driving one........#54 of 61 of the LT1 SS's in the series.
I drove the '97 HMS SS for 8 years as my daily driver. I racked up over 100,000 miles in those years.......and showed it in car shows until the day I hydroplaned on the freeway (standing water), and executed a "NASCAR" style wreck.....with 4 complete 360 degree rotations, while bouncing off of the guidewires in the median. :(
Here is a link to the album of the car after the wreck.

If you are really bored, I have a TON of pictures in there from various car shows, drag strips, and other rec. stuff. Also there are some shots of my '97, and my dad's '69 in there as well.

Pics or info? If info.....ask away.
It was originally Daytona Yellow with a black vinyl top. Its a X77 car, factory front disk brakes, rally pack gauges. Still has the original M-22 and original 12 bolt rear with 3.73's. I am pretty sure the seats are incorrect, as they don't have headrests. I want to say they are '68 seats. Either way, they are black vinyl/white houndstooth. I am not sure what other options the car had......but if anyone would like to decode it (its been since we got the car that someone deciphered it for us) I will get the VIN up.
Its definitely not a 1000pt car......but it is a really fun cruiser, and it does get shown at some car shows. When I put the new dash in, I did see alot of yellow that appeared untouched under there......so I am pretty sure the color decoded we were told was correct.
The interior will just about be 100% restored when I finish it up (hopefully tomorrow night). My dad had some bad luck with 2 different body/paint shops.......before finding what he and I both thought was 'the man'. For those in or around North Carolina, steer CLEAR from Bobby Leonard. His site/co is www.landhracecars.com. Pretty locally known for his race cars he builds.......but the man pretty much stuck it to my dad and this car. Horrible job.:sad:
DougP Apr 16th, 09, 04:22 AM Welcome to Team Camaro -- that's a nice looking 69 -- and I like your "creative" screen name
98blackburb Apr 16th, 09, 07:27 AM What goodies in the ZZ4 ? Anymore pic's available ?

I am going to get some kick panel pics uploaded tonight. I'll take some new interior shots, and dig through an external hard-drive later to get a couple more outside shots up.
The ZZ4 has a comp cam (I'll have to find the cam card), Hooker Competition Headers, Unilite distributor, Edelbrock Performer intake, a Holley 750DP (too big :) ), and MSD 6AL. I know the ZZ4 was rated '355hp' with a HEI dizzy and a Quadrajunk 750......so I'd guess with the butt-dyno that the ZZ4 is putting that to the ground at least.......optimally 375rwhp or so.
My dad has talked about a big block for years now......but not really sure what he ultimately wants to do with it.
Richard Cranium Apr 16th, 09, 07:31 PM Everyone wanted more pics........here ya go!
I took these well over a year ago, when my dad put the car up for sale. Only a few subtle changes since these pics were taken.
