View Full Version : Windshield Trim Installation
IDS_Bill Mar 29th, 09, 12:48 AM I've been searching all evening on this - how do I install the windshield trim? I looked through the AIM and the Fisher manual but how the heck do the clips and trim go on? Pictures would be great.
Is there a source out there to describe how to do this?
parkbrau Mar 29th, 09, 02:02 AM Try this link Bill. Theres other links out there as well. http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=54918&highlight=windshield+clip

Thanks for the link. I had seen that one and it doesn't answer my questions. Let me be specific - Note, my windshield is in and fenders are already on:
- What has to go on before the glass?
- What has to go on before the fenders?
- How do the clips install?
- What order does the moulding go on?
- Does the bottom moulding slide on or clip on?
I see the lower ones that screw into the outer dash but am I screwed with the corners that look like they go under the fender? I also cannot for the life of me figure out how the side pillar and top clips work.
I'll document this while I do it for future searchers. As hard as it is to figure out, I was surprised there wasn't more on here.
Thanks everyone!
Satatic Mar 29th, 09, 10:46 AM Yeah theres tons of info but never exactly what you need. Or you find what you need and the pics are long gone.
gene_sc Mar 29th, 09, 01:36 PM Clips slide onto the studs around the sides and top of glass, bottom clips are screwed to cowl (cowl panel removed) and on the 'A' pillar under the fender. I start on one side at the bottom working my way around the glass. For the lower it helps to have a extra pair of hands, to get the end clips under the fender without scratching the paint/primer.

Good info - but how do the side/top clips clip on? Does the bottom trim slide or clip onto the screwed on clips
and
(I am afraid to ask) What do you do about the outside clips if the fender is already on?
Thanks!
gene_sc Mar 29th, 09, 03:52 PM 1) but how do the side/top clips clip on?
There should be little 'pins' or 'studs' around the top and sides of the window frame. Unless it's a convertible then they are screwed in before the glass goes in.

2) Does the bottom trim slide or clip onto the screwed on clips ?
The clips side into the molding then the molding goes on. I do one side of the bottom at a time. (Start by putting some tape on the top of the fender if painted) I slide the clip out as far as it goes and work it under the fender, then do the same to the other side. Then slide the center of the 2 lower moldings together.
Unreal Mar 29th, 09, 05:33 PM For the bottoms, it's a bear to get the outer brackets screwed into the door jam area. you have to start the screws, then slip the fork of the brackets onto the screws, and then sort of bow the two halves to get them started in the middle. Then work them back flat. It's a whole lot easier to install before the fenders!! (as the factory did)
IDS_Bill Mar 29th, 09, 08:13 PM Okay I am understanding the bottom. The clips that go on the nubs around the window though - does anyone have a pic of the correct orientation that these go?
Also - the ones you were talking about screwing on at the ends of the moulding - can these be done post fender? I feel like a dip%#@& but I am having a bear of a time with these...
Unreal Mar 29th, 09, 09:02 PM Not easy, but can be done. I did mine as I described above.
First install fit the 6 or 7 middle brackets into place. Then loosely hook the two forked brackets into the screws at either side, and then align the two pieces at the center. Start inserting of one trim into the other, while bowing the two pieces to make insertion easier. Gently work the two pieces together. I think on mine, the female end spread a little in the process, so I had to carefully squeeze it back together about 1/8" or so with a pair of pliers covered with a rag to prevent damage. Not easy, but it can be done, and I did it without help.
I forget exactly how the end brackets go on, but if you trial fit one side you can only align with the screw one way.

IDS_Bill Mar 29th, 09, 10:11 PM Thanks for the pic - so it just snaps on the outside of the moulding then?
parkbrau Mar 29th, 09, 11:41 PM The clip will snap on that little nub, just as Geneo's pic shows. Then the stainless trim will clip right over the mounting clip. Try it out with one clip first...get the feel of it going on.
Those outsides are a bit of a hassle. I screwed up and put the fenders on, then did the stainless trim. I had to use a 90 degree screw driver to screw them 2 clips down tight.
1st Pic is with the top clip on the little stud. 2nd is the clips that must go in the back of the stainless trim on the bottom trim piece, 3rd is with the clip slid in the trim, it just slides in there. Bottom trim will go on after you have top and sides clipped on.
Hope this gives you a better visual
Sauron67MM Mar 30th, 09, 04:56 AM The lower molding outside clip screws are origionally hex heads; which makes their installation easier. I have installed the lower molding and outside clip screws without any difficulty; it just requires patience. Simply start the screws and tighten with a wrench.
It is not necessary to put the outside clip screws in the pillar first and then slide the forked outside brackets on. Not doing so allows you more movement for insertion of the lower halves. Put the lower molding halves in place, slide the halves together and then put the side and lower screws in. It will eliminate the need to fight yourself bowing the halves to join the center.
Installation can be accomplished without paint damage. Just take your time if you are in unfamiliar territory. If all the clips are new and patience is executed, assembly is akin to a child's snap together toy. Perhaps you will find a method that works best for you in your task. It will be done before you know it.
IDS_Bill Mar 30th, 09, 12:05 PM COOL! I think I have enough info now.
Does anyone have a pic of the screw hole for the end clips so I know what I am looking/feeling for under the fender?
jr68 Mar 30th, 09, 03:52 PM here is one on the lower corner on the drivers side . . .
jr68 Mar 30th, 09, 04:12 PM here . . .
jr68 Mar 30th, 09, 05:00 PM here is a better shot,
the passenger side . . .
gene_sc Mar 30th, 09, 07:03 PM Good pic but its suppost to be a hex head screw :)
jr68 Mar 30th, 09, 07:56 PM Good pic but its suppost to be a hex head screw :)
it will be our little secret :secret:
IDS_Bill Mar 30th, 09, 08:50 PM WOOHOO!!! Thanks JR68 - that is EXACTLY what I needed. I found the holes and am searching down some screw to go in now. I think this thread will be very useful to others in the future too.
