View Full Version : Power steering pump and/or brackets......
Crankrod Mar 29th, 09, 02:05 PM This is driving me insane! I have a 1967, 327, 4 speed, 18,810 original miles.
I had to put power steering and AC in the car, my wife weighs 95 pounds and (I got this one for her) and she could not get it out of a parking space with the manual box. The AC is because we live in Central Florida, I wont even ride in a car without AC in the summer here. its HOT!
Any how, I got the new 605 PS box from Ricks First Gen, that went in fine and I have no problem there, yet.........
My problem is I cannot get a PS pump on the car, it hits the crossmember. I have "supposedly anyways" 67 and 68/69 brackets. They both have the PS pump touching the cross member!
The bracket in the back is a b#$%^ to put on as well.
Is it possible I have the wrong motor mounts? The wrong PS pump? The wrong brackets, I have 3 diff sets? I need help bad here.
1967 camaro, was manual steering, now has a 605 PS unit and I cannot get a pump on this car without it hitting the frame crossmember
Anyone in Central Florida want to fix this? Mike Milliken 863-439-8224
I got a nice garage and cash money. I'm willing to pay traveling expenses as well. Yes, I am that desperate.......
Crankrod Mar 29th, 09, 02:10 PM Another reason I think it may be a motor mount problem is that my air cleaner hits my cowl hood (goodmark hood, 2")........It looks like the motor is back a bit too far, or maybe thats just cause of the hi rise dual plane intake (performace products with a 1" spacer)?
Just another clue for you experts. I appreciate whatever guidance I can get, this car needs to be back on the road.
68driver57 Mar 29th, 09, 02:28 PM Are you using a stockstyle pump? Those brackets are easier to get off than they are to get on but there should be 2-3" clearance at the bottom of the bracket. You might have to play with it for a while, I did but it finally fit.
click Mar 29th, 09, 02:43 PM I moved this to brake/suspension section for replies. Please only post in one section, per site rules.
Crankrod Mar 29th, 09, 08:54 PM Geez Jim,
I'd figure its more important to get results than to have rules just so you get to enforce them like a NAZI, and then hide behind your petty "zero tolerance" BS......
Safe to assume you are a liberal democrat and you got beat up a lot in school... Get even time for you, right? People like you irritate the hell out of me.
I am a Camaro fan/owner with a serious issue, member since 06...... First time I've asked for help!
Isn't THIS precisely the reason for this forum to even exist.... OR is it for you to get a "nut" being Mr. Enforcer?
Thanks for NOTHING!
jcfcamaro Mar 29th, 09, 09:14 PM crankrod,I have a set of 327 brackets that came off of a motor with air! They are 1968 brackets I thought they would work on my 67 rs/ss 4p car,but they would'nt.I needed the 350-302 brackets . But what your saying seems to me would do the same no matter which one you used.I have both and the lower cradle looks like it would put the pump at the same height. And as for the aircleaner hitting the hood that would only help! But I've been wrong before.my wife says alot!
Crankrod Mar 29th, 09, 09:16 PM the car is a 67...... theres a lot more room down at the bottom right on the 69 I looked at.
If theres a smaller PS Pump, that might be what I need, the one I have has a full sized reservoir that looks larger than the 67 pump I just saw on ebay. That PS pump looked like the reservoir on it was barely hanging below the pumps internals.
I bought a whole kit from CPP, that has the 605 box, hoses, brackets, is supposedly complete for a 67. It was very expensive. The PS pump reservoir hits the crossmember. It cannot be bolted on as is.....
If anyone really thinks they know whats going on here, please call me collect at 863-439-8224 , Mike
Crankrod Mar 29th, 09, 09:22 PM Jared, I appreciate you trying to help! I have 3 different sets of brackets and the reservoir on the pump hits the crossmember at the front right of the motor. Its TIGHT there, no way i can get that pump on, much less the hoses.
You lost me at the end of your post, can you clarify that part?
Crankrod Mar 29th, 09, 09:52 PM Jared just called..........I got the wrong brackets. Looked in Ricks First Gen and I got the 302/350 brackets.
Why is that a problem? Isnt the 302 based on a 327 block? I thought first gen SBC's all had the same ouside dimensions?
Thanks Jered, you da man.........

You double posted which is against site policy. Policy is the way we help keep the information organized for future searches. Someone that replies to you in one section will be confused to further reply when you have posts in mulitiple sections. The policy is there for a reason and you sir tried to skirt it. Your bashing of me sure put a few more steps in your ladder to respect didnt it?

You post like this 1 more time and you will not be welcome at TC any longer! This place is all about helping each other but this place also has to have some sense of order or it wouldn't be functional! You may not care what drawer you put your sox in but you are the only one using your dresser.
Here at TC thousands use the site and we don't cater to folks that only think of themselves, espically when they post the kind of crap you just did! Jim is a moderator here because he helps and cares more than the average guy I honestly think you owe him an apology his motives for moving this thread are that of helping, there is no power trip here!
I'll remind you that you were granted permission to post in these forums and you agreed to follow a few simple guidlines, your quoted post breaks most of them and will not be tollerated. I don't like being put in this position and I'm not messing around, I will leave it up to you if you wish to remain welcome here!
captcanuck68 Mar 30th, 09, 06:23 PM From what I have read I think an apology was in order for the unprovoked bashing of Jim.
Simply put, he was just doing his job as a mod, informing a new member of some of the rules in place to make this site work as efficiently/effectively as it does. Jim did this in a most gentlemanly manner as possible, and even said "please" to indicate professional intent. But instead, he was accused of behavour that I'm sure was unwarranted and untrue.
We should be showing support and a positive attitude towards the guys who have put and still do place a lot of time/effort into this site. I have been to other sites and some appear to be a "free for all" with slurs/insults and totally negative comments coming down the tube to the members in those sites... but maybe certain types do relish this type of activity and belong in those car sites. Nuff said!

ChuckD Mar 30th, 09, 07:24 PM Holy Cow...Click rules! He is ALWAYS polite and helpful. DJD...right on the money!! Anyway, Crankrod...we all rise up to help. I hope you get your PS fixed, and also hope you take the commentary in the manner in which it's intended. We are all TC bretheren.
I received the most ignorant reply from a pm that I sent him. I will not have someone as arrogant and abusive as part of our site.
We try, but some people can't be reached. He is no longer participating here.
edit: If anyone is actually considering helping this guy, well, be prepared. "Desperate" people begging for help should at least have a little respect for others.
