The same casting was used for all 12 bolt applications for a couple of years, so the casting is of little help. The application code is on the front side of the pass side axle tube. You should go to the CRG site (camaro.org) and study up. That will give you numerous things to look for to help deduce what your car was originally. Unfortunately, 68s are the hardest to do as the cowl tags only give you exterior color, interior trim and build week.

BS 0229G2 would be a 3.31 12 bolt posi assembled on Thursday, February 29th (leap year), 1968 at the Detroit gear and axle plant.

Lonnie, the car is a 1968 Los Angeles built V8 Camaro Coupe with the British Green exterior and black and white deluxe houndstooth interior.

Do you have the engine pad stamping?

Ed, what's the story on the ZZ paint code for '68 ?... some times it's special order (early year ?) then others it's British Green

Yeah Gar, you're right. Z indicated special paint (or stripe delete) in early 68 production. HERE'S (http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#ExteriorColors:S:SpecialPaint) more info.

But this is a March-built car (though Lonnie missed posting the build date).
So Z-Z is British Racing Green.

And the axle looks to fit the car's build date.
