Joe D Mar 29th, 09, 08:08 PM What is the correct air cleaner (non cowl induction) and valve cover setup for this engine? I'm guessing an open element chrome air cleaner and polished aluminum (similar to Z28) valve covers. How about breather tubes and PCV valves, etc.
Thanks everyone!
TOM BARKLEY Mar 29th, 09, 09:21 PM Chevy orange valve covers, Chrome lid single snorkle air cleaner not open
SPARKY69 Mar 30th, 09, 05:00 AM Welcome to team camaro!!!!!!!!!!!!
kmg1969ss Mar 30th, 09, 10:12 AM Chevy orange valve covers ... Snorkle air cleaner ... Not chrome lid ... There would also be a decal on the black lid (350 ci / 300hp) ... Or something there of ... Chrome lid is for the 396 open element air cleaner ... you should also have the stock exhaust manifolds which in return would allow you to attach the stove pipe to the bottom of the air cleaner ... I LOVE STOCK !!!! ... Kevin (kmg1969ss)
kmg1969ss Jan 3rd, 10, 10:05 AM Oh, stove pipe air cleaner attachment is for the automatic transmission cars, the manual transmission cars (I read), would not have the stove pipe attachment (someone correct me if I a wrong b/c I have the automatic trans) ... Kevin (kmg1969ss)

Yes chrome lid on the SS350/300hp
kmg1969ss Jan 3rd, 10, 10:54 AM I just did some additional reading ... Chrome lid (stand corrected) ... I love when I get to learn more about my 1969 Camaro SS !!! ...
Jeremiah Jan 3rd, 10, 12:53 PM Yea, the chrome lid arguement has poped up a few times. I used to think only the LM1 came with the chrome lid and SS black... from past threads it looks like they both had chrome.
kmg1969ss Jan 5th, 10, 11:49 AM Anyone have an unmolested stock air cleaner, Quadrajet vacuum lines placements including the direction of the lines and then the holder under the air cleaner which line goes where and of course the vacuum heat riser part on the snorkle it's self ... Stock and original info guidance please ... Thanks Kevin (kmg1969ss)
Jonesy Jan 5th, 10, 01:13 PM What are you looking for?? Manual trans or auto trans air cleaner?
I take it you want auto trans setup info as you mention the heat riser, which was not part of the manual trans setup.

kmg1969ss Jan 7th, 10, 11:16 AM How about a picture of an unmolested 350 SS automatic engine compartment anyone ? ... Do I need to go to classified section to get/ ask for a picture ? ... I have also been reading some of the posts and I am coming across this chrome lid controversy ... My 1969 Camaro SS was built in Aug 1968, therefore, as I have read, the 1968 SS HAD a chrome lid upon the stock style air cleaner ... Therefore, I will consider it to be applicable to my assembly ... BUT my question is, WHAT DOES THIS CHROME LID LOOK LIKE ? ... Is it a chrome version of the existing stock lid, or a slightly different design ... A picture of an unmolested chrome lid on a 1969 Camaro SS 350 with automatic would be greatly appreciated (I saw one the other day, but can not find the post again) ... Kevin (kmg1969ss)
PS ... I do have an air cleaner, I am not looking for another, just some answers to some of my confusion ...
1969 RS/SS DROPTOP Jan 7th, 10, 12:44 PM This is the correct air cleaner/chrome lid from a SS350/300hp engine with an automatic transmission.

Jonesy Jan 7th, 10, 01:16 PM There is no chrome lid contraversy. The 69 Camaro L48 (SS350) came with a chrome lid. It is the same as the standard lid except it is chrome.
When you asked your question above you were not specific. Then I see you have a couple of posts going on this. :clonk: Try to keep it in one post.
Mr. Super Sport Jan 7th, 10, 01:23 PM The Chrome air cleaner was a bright engine accents option. Included Chrome air cleaner lid and chrome oil cap for the stock orange valve covers for the SS350. I believe you could also order this for the base V-8 as well. Z-28 finned valve covers were for Z-28s not SS 350's. I looked high and low for several years to finally find a stock air cleaner for a 4 speed car which does not have the stove pipe. Most went into the trash in favor of a Mr. Gasket open element chrome air cleaner back in the day.

Correct, My car did have the orange valve covers. I added the Z/28 finned valve covers as i like the look.
kmg1969ss Jan 7th, 10, 02:20 PM Thank You greatly for the picture posted above, and the answer to the question of which I have/ been reading about ... And all due respect, I knew nothing of that (chrome lid) subject) BEFORE I began reading the PAST posts yesterday ... Therefore you see, this informational site works great !!! ... Now I need to find a lid chrome applicable for my 1969 Camaro SS 350 (ooppps, I better go to the classified section and not mention that here on this post) ...
Sir, Pardon me ... I have made a couple of posts because I am/was READING the previous posts (some VERY OLD dates), and commenting to them NOT making new posts ... I have been asking questions to those subjects which seem to be very interrelated to my current job task (ie: vacuum lines, chrome lids, pvc valve, breather hose, etc) ... Which all happen to be near the subject of the AIR CLEANER, of which I am attempting/trying to clarify and install correctly on my Camaro SS 350 auto trans ... And, as I had mentioned in one of them there posts ... "Although I looked for the answers through searching the posts, there was NOT a clear concept that I was able to, or could come away with, or pictures" ... Therefore, I asked questions in several previous posts that I read that came up during my searches ... And THAT brought the subjects back to the top of the list where some kind individual, could help me understand ...
I may be wrong, but I think that's what we are suppose to do here ... Ask questions to things we want to know about and offer advice for the things that we do know of ...
Jonesy Jan 7th, 10, 04:16 PM Like I said, it would be easier to keep track and HELP you if you kept it to one post.
I had to go read through 2 posts just to figure out what you had and were asking.

Oh was not detracting from your car at all -which is beautiful! Just trying to get the info straight.

You could not order any engine compartment accents in 69, there was no engine accent options that you could select on the order sheet. Thats just the way they came.

I stand corrected. You are right. My memory is falling me. Thanks for pointing that out.:beers:
camaromaniac Jan 8th, 10, 07:12 PM It is so interesting to get first hand information/knowledge on such small detail items. It kinda makes you wonder what these cars will look like in another 40 years when all of us old guys are long gone! Finding a correct car may be next to impossible. Hopefully we will have left enough correct documentation in hobby sites like this one to make it doable for future generations.
