I had a similar problem with my Holley 4346 and a guy who reputation for doing nice work. He was local, and every month or so, I stopped by to see what was up. Always got a line about how he wasn't happy with the dye job and sent it back, he just got it back, and was waiting on a part or something. Finally I demanded to see the unit, and he pulled it off a shelf. It was exactly as I gave it to him 9 months earlier! He agreed to give it back, but I told him if he would commit to finishing the carb in 1 month, I would like him to do it. He came through, and the carb looked sensational. In fact, he tried to discount his work due to the wait, and I had to practically force him to take the money we had agreed on in the beginning.
Had a similar problem with my car in painter's prison, but the results were worth it.
My point is that most of these guys mean well, but things get in the way. If the guy does great work and you have a little time, it might be worth the wait. I can't speak for Darrel, as I know nothing about him or his work.

I'm not in "that big of a hurry" as far as that goes... I just dont like hearing "it's going out tomorrow" 5 times. I hear that b.s. then wait a week and call back and hear the same thing. One thing I don't want to get lost or never get back are the ORIGINAL black and gold California plates for a '68 Camaro!

......similar situation with a set of Lemons Headers.....I was told by Dan that they(Lemons Headers) were currently experiencing a 6 week back log on their custom fabricated headers and would'nt you know it....6 weeks quickly turned into 4 months which isn't unreasonable when considering that there are only 4 full time employees at Lemons Headers!!! I would call Dan to check on the status of my headers and he was very courteous and concerned about my order. Bottom line............if you've ever seen a set of Dan Lemons custom headers then you know about his quality and craftsmanship:yes:.I can say without question that the extra time taken to receive my headers was definetly worth it:yes:. As said....if you have the time...you'll be pleasently surprised when that package finally does arrive:thumbsup::thumbsup:.

I have done a few plate restores, they are not that hard. I think for some reason yours keep getting moved to the end of the line. I think my turn around was about 2 weeks if I was making an effort to get them done, one set took 2 months cuz "things got in the way"
