Hello everybody,

Quick question! Driving by a barn today I saw what appeared to be a somewhat nice Camaro sitting in it. It has the square headlights and RS in the center of the grill. I am trying to figure out what year it is, I believe it is a '68 or '69. I bet more info. is needed to tell the year. I will try to meet the owner and see if it is available. Will try to get pictures also.

I looked at the classifieds here and could not find square headlights with the RS on the grill.

Lastly, what is the main difference between RS and SS.

Thanks,
Curtis

If most of the headlight covers were body color with some chrome inserts, it's a '69.

If they're blacked out like the grill, it's a '67 or '68.

The SS is a performance package, the RS is an appearance package and they were available combined.

More than likely, a '69, '67-'68 are trapezoid shape.
RS pkg is an appearance pkg, could be ordered with any model of car.
Super Sport pkg is a performance option - high perf V8, front disc brakes, I think, multi-leaf rear springs, 12-bolt rear axle - limited slip.

If you seen RS on the grille, no SS pkg installed as SS overrules RS in the badging rules.

If you get a chance to look, take a picture or copy down the trim tag info and have the Tag People decode it for you. Good luck, and

Ok, snuck up to the barn and got a couple of photos. I hope this link works. Trying to figure out what year it is, still cant locate an owner. I originally stated that they had square headlights. Getting close I saw that they are round covered by some sort of moveable grill. You can see it in one of the pictures.http://s732.photobucket.com/albums/ww324/huthip/camaro/

Thanks

Looks like a 69 rs grill from your pictures. easier to tell the year for sure if you look down the sides of the car 67 no side marker lights and vent windows in the doors. 68 side markers no vent windows. 69 has very distinctive side body lines follow the curve of both wheel openings up the front of them over the top and run straight back from the top of the wheel openings. Nice car if your serious be prepared when you find the guy to make a real offer and pay him asap if hes willing to sell it. When someones been storing one of these for a while and finally decide to move on it strange things can happen in very short order. He tells someone about it, you do etc and someone else will be running there to get it asap and make a bigger offer. Do your home work try and find out as quickly as possible what shape its in what your willing to pay for it and have that money and a means to move it ready for as soon as you can talk to the owner. good luck.

definately a 69 RS, I hope you find it available for sale. Caution messing around someone's property without permission tho.
Keep following up with the owner and get access to the car if you can, snap tons of pics, we can help you figure out what else the car has for options. Trim Tag and VIN are a good start.
Welcome to Team Camaro too :)

Jim's correct you should be very cautious about trespassing it probably won't help your case with the owner. And if you go just asking randomly about the car others that know of it may start asking about it as well and know where to find the owner already. In this part of the world you can go to the government offices and find the owner through the land registry. If it was me looking at it I would find the owners name and contact info. assemble my coin arrange things in advance to be able to move it within hours if things work out. Start early on a Saturday make my call and arrange to talk to him in person. Have your money readily available to complete any deal made (bring a friend if your nervous about carrying cash). Be nice don't tell him you trespassed, and if things start working out have a cell handy and friend on the other end that can look up the trim codes etc. to verify what your looking at and run a quick post in what its worth to figure out values, if your unsure, to put you in a ball park offer area. And before doing any of that spend some time on site here plenty of info on known problem areas body wise ie rust etc to read through, so you know what to look for and where if you get to see this thing up close and personal when meeting the owner. A little long winded but really looks from your post like you could use a little help on this. If it does not work out be pleasant and leave name and number and be clear on your interest in the car you never know you might get a call on it after some time to think on his part.

Just outside of Austin. I keep going by this house but nobody is ever there. The car looks really nice, except for the convertible top. It appears to need a replacement.

certainly looks like a '69. has an RS grille on it, but doesn't mean it was a factory RS car. I've seen so many mickey-mouse conversions. I really like the advice of some of the others; you could have yourself a steal on this one, if you move quickly and are prepared. Gotta get a look at the cowl tag so you can see what you have here, but be ready to purchase the car, if that's what you want. Good Luck!
