OK ..so I had the "great idea" of taking apart the front end of my 69rs to clean up and paint the radiator support, grill, headlight assembly ect....

Everything was going fine till ...yep.....HEADLIGHTS

I tried to remove the whole headlight unit & doors but cant get it out.
The "long" bolt that runs down through the hole to the lower lever seems to be fixed onto the unit.

So I was wondering if there is a trick to taking the whole assembly out??

Look under the headlight assembly and you'll see it's got a nut that holds the bellcranks. If you don't have an assembly manual you might want to get one!!

Kevin, I agree with Rick, you need the AIM to take apart these cars. I did exactly what you are doing, freshened up the front end, had it all apart and no way Id get it back together without the AIM. Those long bolts have nuts like Rick said, just go slow, use bright LED or halogen lights, its there. :) Here are pics of my front end project, maybe some of them will help you:

Thanks for the pics Jim ..looks like the same thing Im trying to do. Did you use a rattle can on most of the parts or powder coat??

RSR...I have the manual and I did first try to remove the bottom nut off the long bolt. I found that the lower bracket would not come off the lever that goes to the can. I did see that I may have to remove a cotter pin on top..But one thing is for sure, I do need more light!
I will go make another attempt later today...Thanks for the responses......

just removed the top nut off the long bolt -- and the lower nut off the headlight door. Top assembly came right out ..now Ill go after the lower assembly. Probably not the way it was meant to come out though...
