Back spacing is too much on the 4th gen wheels. SS wheels are 17x9 with something like 7" back spacing, using something like a 1.5" addapter will allow them to fit the rear. You can do the same up front and remove the inner fenders... The ragtop SS cars didn't get 17x9's but I'm not sure what they were and the Z28's got 16" wheels. I don't know the width or back spacing but they are what use to be refered to as front wheel drive wheels. That means lots of back spacing with the rim of the wheel and the spokes or center of the wheel being on the same plain or flat not dished.

Addapters are expensive and usually offset the good deal on 4th gen take-offs... There are companys making 4th gen and vette style wheels to fit a 1st gen.

Ya know I can't remember but at one time they were advertised in every Chevy High Performance and Super Chevy mag I thumbed through...
