I need to replace the oil pan on my 67 SS 350. PO set the engine on it. Is it worth paying over $100 for an original GM pan or will the $22 pan from Summit (SUM-G3500X) look and work just as well?

Here is a link to the Summit oil pan. Why is the price difference between this one and the GM pan so large? Am I paying for the GM stamp or is the Summit pan junk? http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=SUM%2DG3500X&N=700+0&autoview=sku

Hi, I just built a motor and bought a cheap oil pan and when I installed it it leaked before I installed the motor. I bought a NOS oil pan for 100.00 and it was worth it. For the money I would buy a GM pan, is it really worth the money since you have the motor out.

There are some places you can save money but the oil pan isn't one of them. Get the GM or a good aftermarket pan from Moroso or Milodon or somebody reputable. The cheap asian junk, usually chromed, will disappoint you.

Jeff - Thanks, that is what I needed to know. I will get the GM pan.

And with a proper pan, you will be able to set the engine on it without worry of damage. Of course, some of these pans are exotic. In that case, all bets are off.

I just bought the GM pan along with the GM clutch fork, both were recommended by TC members over the aftermarket stuff (junk). Thanks guys. Now if the weather would only cooperate I could get my engine painted and back together.
