View Full Version : Hounds tooth Interior in different colors.
Stewie Apr 1st, 09, 09:57 AM I know Classic supplies the standard colors, Black, Ivory, Orange, and Yellow.
I was wondering if anyone has seen a set done in any other colors? I have a red interior and I would love to have a set of houndstooth seats in red without having to have them custom made. The door panels and rear seat is brand new, but my fronts are original. So I could justify new seat covers.
My cars is sort of a resto mod but I am trying to keep it as original looking as possible.
dyno jonn Apr 1st, 09, 10:28 AM Years ago, I was at a shop that did interiors and they had houndstooth fabrics in blue, maroon and red too. I always wanted to do a blue car with a blue houndstooth. I think it would be a killer combination.

4033 Apr 1st, 09, 02:46 PM When I re-did my interior I tried to do the blue houndstooth but no one could get it or would produce it as they said they needed a min of 5 people to order it for it to be worth it to them.
If you get it, post pics as I'd love to see it!!!!!!!!
69Z28-RS Apr 1st, 09, 03:55 PM If you call and talk to one of the seat cover manufacturers, you might find they can make the '69 seat covers for you correctly, but using non-original materials. Most of these companies make original covers for many other cars as well, and thus have materials from other cars. It's a simple matter to use material from one car, but cut and stitch up in a different seat pattern. They will likely charge you more, since it's 'custom', but still should be MUCH cheaper than having a local upholsterer figure it all out anew.... ie. My '60 Chevy Impala had red houndstooth seats..... as I'm sure many others did....

now I think it look good
Stewie Apr 1st, 09, 08:30 PM I was actually thinkging of using the regular black hounds tooth with red trim on the seats. That way it would look sort of stock.
Yes I saw a beautifully restored 60 Impala with the red houndstooth and that gave me the idea.
I have a guy who could take a set of covers and retro fit red material. He did a set of seats for a 1964 Galaxy 500 XL from scratch using the old seats as a template. If you have ever seen the rear seat on them you would be amazed at how many little pieces there were.
I have an email into Classic to see if I could special order a set. It would be about the same price as me buying a set of black covers and have them redone with the red in place of the black material. I do not know why they would not make them. I am sure we aren't the only guys who would like other colors.
jjgundy Apr 1st, 09, 09:28 PM I've got some great news for you Brian. I just had a set of custom seat covers made like this last fall. I haven't installed them yet, but plan on it once I start the restoration. I just wanted to have them on hand so that I knew that I would have them. GM used a red houndstooth on the 70 to 72 Chevrolet trucks. So, I had them insert the red houndstooth instead of the solid comfort weave colored material. I called a local dealer that was a distributor for PUI. So, if you go to their site and look to see what the closest dealer is to you and they should be able to hook you up. If you have any troubles drop me a PM and I will give you my number and we can chat about it. I can also give you the number to the dealer I worked with and they should be able to hook you up since they are familiar with the process to get it taken care of. It took a while for it to get done once I ordered it so if you want to get it done for the car show season you will probably want to give them a call ASAP. I think that it to about a month two to get them. There was about a $100 up charge to do this. I think that it cost around $500 for the full kit. Good luck with getting it all lined up and feel free to get in touch with me if you have any questions. I think that it will look pretty sweet once you get it installed. I know that I can't wait to see what mine looks like in my car.

Blue houndstooth would be killer.

schnide Apr 16th, 09, 10:32 AM I've been thinking about doing red houndstooth for 2 years now and can't get up the nerve to try it. I checked with PUI and they even sent me some samples. I've searched for photos but can't find any in a camaro, anyone have any to post.? If I were to go with this I can't make my mind up whether to go all red, or to use black just as the factory orange houndstooth did to set it off. Any ideas?
69Z28-RS Apr 16th, 09, 01:02 PM I'd suggest doing the same as for the orange... ie. use red vinyl with the red/white or red/black houndstooth.. and black carpet/etc.... red custom door panels.... black dash.... black headliner.... but I also think all red would look good. . but you might get tired to too much red?
