View Full Version : Fourth Gen Trunklids (convert)
camarogirl57 Apr 1st, 09, 02:51 PM After four sets of new struts, I cannot get my trunklid on my '95 convert to pop. Sometimes in very hot weather it will respond to the fob or the release in the glove box, but not regularly and it is becoming an obsession with me. Does anyone else have this problem with this?
victimizati0n Apr 1st, 09, 03:20 PM that is a common problem
i cant remember exactly, but there is either a spring in th that you can stretch out, or you have to install a spring
also, im pretty sure there are bump stops back there, you can turn them a little bit so your hatch doesnt close as much and give it a better chance to pop open
john68 Apr 1st, 09, 03:27 PM The early forth gens came from a chop shop/work, if you have an original gas shock.
You can match the number, and get the corect one, If not it is trial and error.
PowerWindows Apr 1st, 09, 05:38 PM The trunk lid on my old 96 Z28 vert never did "pop" open. The latch would release (via fob, inside release or key) and then I'd have to open it by hand to get it to start up.
Althought they are heavier, neither of my other 4th gens (98 and 02 Z's) pop the hatch and open. The 98 releases the latch and I have to lift while the 02 pops and releases the latch but I still have to start them lifting to go up.
All of them would stay open though.
victimizati0n Apr 2nd, 09, 06:20 AM you guys are misunderstanding the point
the latch itself isnt unlatching, when the button is pressed to open the trunk, it will not unlock it.
i will try and find an answer once ls1tech comes back
camarogirl57 Apr 2nd, 09, 02:24 PM Thanks guys. The latch does release and if you catch it quickly enough by hand you can open it but it just seems too heavy for the struts to lift out of the latch. The spring idea seems viable though as that is what seems to be missing...asid from a super strong strut!
camarogirl57 Apr 2nd, 09, 02:25 PM You have to lift that lid by hand at the sme tome you hear the latch move, otherwise it re-catches. What a pain!

i will try and find an answer once ls1tech comes backHate to say it but LS1Tech will probably never be back as you (and I) remember it. They're "under new management". The search function (my primary reason for using that site as I have 2 4th gens with LS1 power) may never work correctly again.
NineBall, PSJ and Brains have started another site.
