Hi all,

My 67 (350 with TH-350) has recently developed an annoying habit. Whenever I stop moderately hard, I hear this relatively loud jingling sound coming from what sounds like underneath the car towards the front. It sounds like a large washer on a large loose bolt being jingled around. I thought it was probably some loose suspension bolt or something that became loaded or unloaded due to braking dive, but I can find nothing loose anywhere under the car. Furthermore, if I shut the engine off when driving and stop hard, the noise does not occur. The noise only occur if the engine is running and occurs both in drive and neutral with the engine running. This tells me that it is not a body or suspension related problem, but an engine or tranny noise. The noise has gotten steadily worse, but I notice no change in the way the car drives....runs smooth and powerful and shifts crisply (easily chirps the tires) without ANY slippage. I can't see anything in the engine being capable of making this noise. Could it be a torque converter noise? I tried to ignore it, but it's driving me nuts. A guy I know that just bought a 79 Malibu says his car is doing the exact same thing also.

you are correct on assuming the converter bolts. check the converter bolts ,to me it sounds like one of them..
