....put the lower shock mount BEHIND the axle on the driver side?

I'm so f'ing pissed off at myself right now. I'm taking off the slapper bars so the car will handle better at Sebring this weekend. So I got a set of mono-leaf shock plates. I thought (which is the problem because I shouldn't be allowed to think) that I could swap sides and would have both shock mounts behind the axle (I have relocated my shocks and can't put them in front of the axle on either side).

So I do the passenger side and everything works. I go to do the driver side and when I'm ready to put the plate in there, I saw that the shock would have to be in front of the axle. I want to scream and have someone beat me with a 2x4 for not checking everything first!

I spent 3 hours tonight and it's a total waste. I'm just going to take the slappers to my friends house and cut off everything but the plate that the shocks mount to. I need to have the car ready to run this weekend.

I think I found what I need at Ricks.

part Numbers: DS-16 & 17

The picture shows it flipped. With it turned over, the shock is behind the axle. There's a different one for the passenger side.

Hope this thread helps someone else from doing a bone-head move like I did.

Got the same set sitting in my garage. Same thing, had multi leaf with forward of axle shocks. Ended up doing exactly what you're doing, using the mounts from the slapper bars. Worked a treat. Happy racing :)

Hmm... is your car mini-tubbed? Those look like the mini-tub version of the DSE plates to me. They also make a stock version:
http://www.detroitspeed.com/images/Rear%20Suspension/stck_lower_shck_pic.jpg

I have the DSE plates on my'68, DSE part number 040302L for both the left and right sides, shown here:
http://www.detroitspeed.com/productpages/indproduct/rearsuspensionprod/lower_shock_plates_prod_test.htm

These are replacements for multi-leaf shock plates, not mono-leaf. If you have a '68 or '69 with staggered shocks, the same plate does both sides, only the '67 with non-staggered shocks uses different plates for the left and right.

If I were you I wouldn't buy them from Ricks, I'd get them direct from DSE. The DSE price is $35/ea, Ricks is $37.99. Not sure what you get for the extra $2.99. You can call them and explain what it is you are doing and they'll be sure you get the right parts. That's what I did and they were extremely helpful. Here are some pics of mine installed:

A factory 68-69 MONO LEAF lower plate will locate the driver's side shock behind the axle and the pass side shock ahead of the axle on a 68-69 with staggered shocks.. These plates use the "through bolt" - not the stud as pictured.

My car was mini-tubbed and with the sway bar I'm running, I can't have the shocks in front of the axle, so those stock DSE plates won't work.

I took the suggestion above and cut up the traction bars. I trimmed the square tube in front & back of the mounting plate. I cleaned it up, repainted and reinstalled them today.

Haven't driven the car yet, but everything fits and I'm hoping for the best.
