I have a 71 chevelle and ended up withsome left over disc brake parts that are new. I was wanting to know if i was wasting my time trying to make these parts work on my 67 camaro.

From the chevelle, i have:
New Rotors
New Bearings
New Seals
New Castle nuts and washers
New Caliper brackets
New Disc Spindles

What i dont have is:
Backing plate
Calipers
Hoses

Can i make my chevelle parts work on this camaro? I dont care about having the 4 piston brakes or anything like that. Single pistons are fine for what i'm looking to achieve. Right now the car isn't driveable with really messed up drum brakes it has right now.

Once these parts on on the car, is it immediatly necessary to change the master cylinder or proportioning valve or anything else...or can it be done later?

thanks a bunch.

My 67 has 72 Chevelle front discs on it, I bought it that way.I was told that including the spindles ,rotors etc were all off the Chevelle.

Dont know about the master cylinder and prop. valve.Would like to know myself.

There is a large section on this site with a lot of info including which G M cars are donor cars for your Camaro brake conversion.

Good luck with your project

It will bolt right on... but order calipers, backing plates and hoses for 69 and up single piston calipers. Inline Tube has a aftermarket prop valve (order the correct brake warning switch from them as well) or stock type prop valve for 69(reuses your stock distribution block, fewer new brake lines you have to buy or fab).

I did a similar swap and ran into one small variation. I believe the steering stops are in a different location from 67-69 camaros. This makes the chevelle caliper inlet fitting hit the steering stop at full lock. I would swap everything over, then mock up the caliper and double check it. I think a 69 GTO caliper has the inlet in a better spot for the 67 camaro swap.

Use the steering arms from the camaro, should take care of the caliper hitting, but as stated above mockup and check... There are 2 common types of single piston calipers... 1 has the hose inlet at the very top and 2 with the inlet about 1/3-1/2 up the caliper body(ie; what comes in a MP Brakes kit). The 1 with the inlet at the very top, seems to work best w/o having hose length issues.

If you currently have 4 wheel drums, you'll need a disc/drum MC for a 67 Camaro. Also - Chev built thousands of these disc/drum cars with NO prop valve - it was only included with certain options.

OOps, fuzzy memory on the steering stop. It doesn't interfere with the steering arm, I used the camaro ones, it is the bracket on the a-arm or frame. it has been awhile since the swapIt might be the bump stop, LOL something hit...

Thanks for all the help.
So just to recap what i need...

69 Camaro single piston calipers (with inlets on the end not the 1/2 to 1/3 style)
69 Camaro backing plates
69 Camaro hoses for single piston calipers

Prop valve from inline tube or a stock 69 camaro prop valve (or was this not mandatory)

Brake master cylinder for a 67 camaro that's Disc/Drum

Thanks again, this forum is great.

IMHO you will need a prop valve, you can also run a aftermarket adjustable prop valve. I would probably get disc/drum master from a 69 (maybe different bore size for the dual piston vs the single piston). I would call inline tube tech dept and they can explain your options and get you the right parts the 1st time around.
Inline also has some FAQ posted about prop valve ect....

Thanks for all the help with this setup. I really appreciate it.

As of now, i have these parts:
New Rotors
New Bearings
New Seals
New Castle nuts and washers
New Single Piston 69' Calipers
New 69' Hoses
New Caliper brackets
New Disc Spindles
New 69' Brake master cylinder for disc brakes

What i dont have is:
Backing plate
Banjo bolts for the calipers
Dust caps for the rotors

I cant seem to locate the banjo bolts or dust caps at the local parts store. Does anyone have a part number on these? I looked on ebay and those items look to be expensive, for what they are.

Thanks
