Help please - I was able to clean the junk & grease out of my door lock mechanisms, now what should I use to lubricate them now? Also, have cleaned kick panels and the vent slides are sticky - need lubrication - what should I use?

Thanks for advice

I am guessing you removed them from the car and soaked them in Lacquer thinner. That will clean them of ALL old grease.
If you dipped them in Prep n' Etch for a few minutes after that, they now look pretty new.
Then if you dipped them in water and scrubbed while in water with a nylon brush ALL the chemicals are gone.
Now if you blew them out with compressed air they are dry. I also put them in a dryer.
Now spray them with Lithium grease and they should last another 42 years.
So the answer is Lithium Grease.

Did you remove all the “hardware” on the kick panels?
It ALL comes apart pretty easy. The doors have 2 posts and one is spring loaded.
If you did not remove all the hardware and doors do so.
Soak parts in Prep n’ Etch (Home Depo). Make sure none of those parts are
Aluminum. I don’t think any are. Prep n Etch will dissolve them if aluminum.
I would just use WD40 on the kick panels, (mine have no lubricant at all), if you really think they need a little just till you get them all moving again.

After getting rid of the rust, you will probably find you don't need anything and/or the WD40 will work just fine on the slides also.

Great post Dale!

Since new I've used LPS #3. Doors hang like new. Also use it on stuff like the hood hinges. Since new, to open the hood, move the release lever quickly. But be sure to have a hand over the hood to catch it. It flys up FAST. (original SS springs)

Thanks Dale & Fred

I didn't do all your steps, Dale just soaked the locks in varsol avn brushed the softened grease out with an old toothbrush. When they were clean (had no rust to begin with) blew out varsol with air - then took them to install in doors at restoration technicians as he wanted to do line ups before painting. Now the car is home & before I put the glass in, I want to make sure the locks will keep working smoothly - right now, they are a bit sticky. The white lithium spray should get into the inside of the locks.

Your picture of the kick panel isn't the same as mine - my 67 w/o air has manual knobs indented into the panel to open/close the vent. There is a direct short covered cable to the vent door. I'll try some wd40 (that I have) or if I can find the LPS 3 I'll shoot some of it into the cable. The LPS 3 looks like a great option - no silicone to disrupt painting on other parts.

Thanks again for help - don't want to make mistakes going back together.
