View Full Version : LT1 rear disc brake swap - Wheel stud length

I'm planning on swapping the rear drum out of my 67 for some LT1 disc brakes. I would like to continue using my capped lugnuts so the wheel studs can't be too long. Anyone know the length of the stock wheel studs? Trying to have everything ready so I can do everything in one shot.

Thanks
Oliver

Wheel stud length depends on a few things, including thickness of the rotors and the particular wheel you are using. Some good info in this thread. FWIW - I'm running the LT1 rear discs and CL-205 wheels(TTII).

I plan on running the LT1 rear with Budnik Gasser wheels.
When you mounted the LT1 bracket to the rear end did you just use the bolts that were on the car or did you have to get new bolts to accomodate the thickness of the bracket?

Thanks

I bought new grade 8 stuff at my local hardware store.

Do you remember the size of the bolts?

I used 3/8-16 x 1 or 1 1/4 - I forget which, go with 1 1/4 to be safe. I used split ring lock washers and blue loctite on them. 3/8-20 would be fine also. Just make sure you get grade 8.

PS I you can get EVERYTHING together without making several trips to the parts house during this project you're a better man than me!!!

LOL, I'm gonna try but I'm sure I'll make a couple of trips.

I was hoping to only make one trip to the parts store and failed. LOL
I got the 3/8-16 x 1 1/4 for the bracket (1" would've worked) but I completely forgot about getting the M12x35mm 1.75 bolts for mounting the caliper to the bracket. Doh!
