Hello everyone,
my '69 is sprung really high. I have a good 3" from the top of the tire to the fender.
I've been looking at new wheels and want to fill the wells as much as possible.
I currently have 255/60/15s on the back with Rally Wheels.(7", 4.5"bs) They have about a 27" diameter.
I was thinking of moving up to a 17" rim while still keeping a fairly tall aspect ratio. Such as a 255/60/17, to sort of have a stock look with a bigger wheel and at the same time a larger diameter tire to fill the well. Or even 255/70/15s if I stayed with 15s..
Anyone out there running really tall tires? Say 29" or 30" etc. What'll fit? I guess I'm curious about the clearance at the front and rear of the well as opposed to the typical width issues.
Thanks for any input.

Hi Mark - I suggest you fix your suspension. A 29" tall tire is only going to fill in 1" of the 3" of clearence you already have. A 17" 60 series tire is 29" and with bigger wheels your car is going to take on that hip hop look. Your existing 27" tall tire is as tall as you really should go. If you crawl around under your car you might be able to figure out why it's so jacked up...

Thanks Dennis,
That's sort of what I figured. I was trying to get around redoing the suspension. For 2 years I've been driving around like I'm going uphill because the rear had sagged so much.
I finally got the spring shop to bring it up to match the front and to my surprise, the front was pretty high. I've enclosed a picture to show. Not quite ready to replace the fronts or cut them down and redo the back all over again. So I guess I'll have to be riding high for a while. Well, if anything, it's a little different!
Maybe the front has big block springs? Not sure if that would make a difference.
It's a newly rebuilt 383 and a Tremec TKO600.
Thanks.
Mark
