I have had my car out a few times this and I have noticed allot of play in the steering and it tracks in road grooves that you find on roads heavily traveled by big trucks. I had had the box rebuilt, new thick center link, inner and out tie rod ends, ball joints even the rag joint. The only thing I didn't change was the pitman arm.
I am looking for hints on where to look next.
Thanks

I would say the alignment and tire pressure.

Brand new front tires pressure checked before I drive it. Must be an alignment issue. I did skid off the road after I hit a deer which are why the front tires are new as they peeled the tread right off when I hit the gravel shoulder.
Thanks Joe

You might place a finger between the s/box case and Pitman arm ansd reach up and grab the rag joint and twist the rag joint to feel a corresponding motion to the Pitman arm.
If not, loosen the locknut on top plate of the box, tighten the adjustment screw to where it touches or resistance is felt, then back off 1/8 turn and lock the locknut.
This action removes the s/box slack. Also, check the wheel bearing preload to ensure its within spec, one flat back after tightening the bearing to remove the clearance.

Good call on the steering box adjustment. They get pretty worn. Just don't go too tight with it.

Thanks! It may be a good call, but only after reading of success if tried will it be worth while.
And yes, getting it too tight and the s/wheel will fail returning to center after coming out of a turn.

Well you can imagine the look on my face after I jacked up the front end and crawled underneath and discovered that I forgot to put a cotter pin in the crown bolt on the pitman arm and it was only 3-4 turns and it came off in my hands. I had the steerring box rebuilt last year and must have forgot to put the cotter pin back in....Wow am I lucky I noticed something wonky with the steering and checked things....learned a valuable lesson.
