1) i really wanted to like this new camaro. And although i acknowledge that it is a technological bargain, i just can't accept the styling.

a) i think it is stupid that just because the mustang went retro ( i call it regressive) styling, the camaro did it to. So, 40 years later the camaro is following the mustang----again.

2) Hows this for a comparison: For about $2K more, you can get a cobalt SS which is about .5 secs faster in the 1/4 mile and gets about 1 mpg better than the base camaro.

Well a guy can go right ahead and pay 2 grand more and go a fraction faster and get better mpg but you would still be driving a turd.

Come on now with the new Camaro retro is in the eyes of the beholder... As for the Cobalt SS it really does help the entire Chevy line-up and is an amazing newcomer to compete with some of the import cars out there. All said and done if you take off the blinders and take a good long look at what Chevrolet is doing right now it's rather impressive.

I test drove an SS saturday and I didnt care for the way the car looks but It surely flies for a stock factory car.
I can grow to love the look soon.
Actually Im betting there will be body mods coming out soon to make it look more 69 ish.

After seeing your profile picture I'm not sure you are a good judge of ugly. ;) To each his own though... :D Going back in history some of the earliest SS badged cars were not V8's...

OK, no more(hopefully) posts from me on this topic after this one, because this issue is so subjective:

1) i acknowledge that the camaro, both base and higher up versions are technological bargains and are technologically amazing; 217 cubic inches that can deliver 13 second 1/4 miles times AND 29mpg for 22K is fantastic. The higher up versions (why can't they just call it z-28?) having over 400hp for under 35K is just amazing. Also they all have independant rear and 4 whl discs.

But i just cannot accept/can't get into the styling; i think GM and chevy dropped the ball on this one. i think they went backwards.

2) RE: Cobalt SS.
Even thought i really like the cobalt ss and cobalts in general. i think it would be better if the base camaro was faster than the cobalt ss. Now, if the base camaro could get no-lift-shift, as the cobalt ss has, then maybe it would be faster. Also, the camaro may handle better than the cobalt, so ultimately maybe the base camaro is ultimately faster than the cobalt ss right now?
Maybe it's ok for the cobalt ss to be faster as it is 2 grand more expensive.

It may be sacriledge, but if the new camaro looked more like a cobalt, i would probably buy one. This would have been my first new car.

I'm on this site because I own a OLD camaro not because I'm a gm lover because I'm not. If they had made it like a 69 camaro I would have to have one but --- I would rather have the mustang or I really really like the new challenger! It would be a toss up. I will say one thing I hate the ricers can't stand them

Actually guys I'm not crappin on Cobalt as much as I'm defending Camaro, you know this is Team Camaro and I assume we are all enthusiasts. The thing is Camaro wasn't developed to be a practical car or an economy car, it was supposed to be a sports car. And sports cars are anything but practical. I don't need a car that gets 10 miles to the gallon has 375 hp and is hard to steer and brake but I wanted one. So you see it's the Camaro mystique that were all in love with, it's all about that name on the fender. It's a Camaro for Gods sake and that's got to be worth something, and I will defend her at all cost cuz I'm a serious Chevy freak !

I'll admit to having a 35+ year love affair with ALL years and gens of Camaro. I've owned 14 of them throughout the years (6 67's, 2 68's, 2 69's 1 ea 89, 96, 98, 02 - All of them V8 cars - never had a 2nd gen for some reason).

And yes, I intend to buy a new one as soon as they make the convertible version of the SS.

AFAIC, it looks like a 69 projected 30 years into the future (here and now). I've seen one up close and personal and I like it.
