I currently have a 350 Goodwrench (hecho in Mexico) shortblock, a set of TFS G1 heads and have been running a Lunati 280 duration hydraulic. Car runs mid-high 13 but is traction limited. I often drive the car to work in Houston traffic with the occassional trip to the strip. I'm looking for some suggestions that will give me the most bang for the least buck. Goals for this project, that I could use some help with, are:
1) Camshaft that will work well with the G1 heads
2) Strengthen the shortblock with a forged rotating assembly.
3) Increase compression ration to about 10.5:1 and optimize the quench
I'm undecided on the shortblock. If I do all the machine work and buy an all new forged rotating assembly, what is the incremental cost to build a 383? Or buy an assembled 383 or 406?

What's wrong with the engine you have now?

It cost me over $2K to convert my Hecho 350 shortblock to an all forged 383. I offset a fair amount of that by selling my "like new" rotating assembly, however, thanks to the good folks on this board who run the classifieds. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I pulled it due to a head gasket. Nothing wrong with the engine. It's me that's broke - got the HP bug. Just finished porting/polishing the G1s. Now I'm looking to beef up the bottom end and get a bit more out of it. I have since pulled the front clip off and am in process of rebuilding front end and some of the sheet metal.
BPOS, your number is about what I thought. That is what has me thinking about turnkeying a shortblock. Not sure what the Hecho 350 is worth, but might help me recoup some of the outlay.

What mph are you running now?
What your comp now?
I got a Scat rotating assm. to do my 383, it was a bit over $1000, came with a Scat cast steel crank, 4340 rods, and SRP fprged pistons, its a good budget set up.
For the twisted weddge heads go with a single pattern cam, since the exhaust port is real good, but only if your exhaust system is good.
Also get the comp around 10.5 or so, and then get a cam that works with it, dont just throw a cam at it if the comp is low and wont work with that cam.
A 383 stroker with a mild cam will put you around 12.0s with good mph, 110+

67RS502, thanks for the reply. How much can that Scat crank take - might want to add a 100shot later down the road?
mph on 13.6 pass was 102. EdelRPM w/ 600cfm and 1" spacer. 1 5/8" headers into 2 1/2 dual FlowMasters. Current CR somewhere around 8.5:1.

They are 20% stronger then a cast iron crank, a 100shot should be fine. I have a friend with a LT1 car that runs low 11s, and spreys 200shot and goes high 9s with that stroker kit, but I think thats pushin it.
Yea, you need some comp, 2 points will make a big difference in all around power, especially with the right cam. (Your current cam is way too big for your low comp.) I'd also recommend an HP750 or HP950 with the 383 set up.
