I had the lovely pleasure of being woken up at 2 am this morning to find out two teen age girls were speeding on my street and plowed into my truck......Ruined my mailbox to.......

The pics speak for themselves.....

OHHHH yeah, the girls are fine. Not a scratch. We acutally let them come in the house becuse it was below freezeing so they could warm up. Otherwise the message would have been MUCH differnent.......

That is precisely why my neighbors and I park all of our vehicles at the ends of our driveways and along the front yards.... to keep people like that from losing control and running over our kids. We find 'out-of-control' tire marks in our front yards all the time because of the orientation of our street.
I'd rather have a brand new truck wrecked and some landscaping destroyed than a murdered child or pedestrian.

Look at it this way Eric...now you can shop for a NEW truck! :) I'm glad the kids were all right. Think they learned their lesson?

I hope they did, you know what struck me, the one mother would not even get out of bed and had the Cop drop her at home...... I understand that its tuff being a single parent but your daughter just got into a MAJOR accident.......

Joe, its intersting that you say that...... Thats EXACTLY why I park the truck there. It usually slows people down and is a buffer for my driveway...... When the Kids are out I put a car across the street to so they can only go single file. Really slows them to the posted 25 mph.....

HwyStarJoe
Apr 7th, 09, 10:27 AM
Exactly.... same situation. 25MPH limit that is usually run at 40. That is when they're not pushing it to the limit to see how fast they can take the curves.
The next door neighbor will put his work truck on the street to force the road down to almost one lane. People HATE it!
We laugh as they get all upset and give us dirty looks.
:D

The kids mother is probably used to the cops calling. Why get out of bed?

I had the same thing happen a two years ago. Drunk driver missed the turn, plowed/totaled my Jeep and drove partway into my garage, damaging my Camaro. I feel for you. At least noone was hurt. You were kind to the girls!

OK, 4 reply's and not a single "that will rub out" comment...................you guys are slippin..............Eric, at least no one was killed and from the looks of the pictures that could have happened. My guess is the insurance will buy you a new truck and with the deflated values on vehicles you may be able to get your pick of nice trucks. It still sucks, and I feel for you.

Boy I hope I don't get the shaft on this. This truck had 195000 miles on it, and was a 97. she ran like a top and was in pretty darn good shape for a work truck.....

I hope they don't low ball me.

I looked at her in the light today..... I know its just a machine, but i have had this truck for 11 years! this truck used to take me to work EVERY day..... I have put a ton of tender loving care into her. Its kinda a shame she had to go this way. she was always good to me and I was always good to her. I would have driven her till the wheels fell off. Ohhh well. I just cant see how they will not have to total her.

I did look today. There are some SMOKING deals on trucks out there!

I am actually eying the heads. they have ALOT of miles on them, but she runs good.

Do the vortec blocks have the hole for the clutch linkage cast in them?

I think If they total it I can buy it back at the salvage rate.... Pull what I want off, (the tires have lees than 10000 miles, new alternator, and the transfer case tranny and axles are all in good shape, but I don't know if there is any demand for them) then sell whats left for salvage myself. the only things I am interested in are the engine and the serpentine set up..... I would sell any other gear.

My mind has been spinning. I don't know what I am going to do..... and the up since 2 am thought process is probably quite flawed...

Eric I just went through this and look at my pics in this thread , they totaled mine and I didn't think it looked that bad http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=152331
They said my 98, Z71 was worth $5600 and I had 101k on it and she was also super clean. I bought it back for $1300 and had it fixed cuz I couldn't find anything for 5600.

it's this "FAST AND FURIOUS" crowd. every kid now has a spoiler on the back of their 92 Honda Civic and think they are professional drifters. God that makes me ill!
I used to get on some kids on my block for turning the corner too fast. Came back from Vacation and my neighbors BMW was crunched from behind. he had just packed up his clubs and going to play golf when he heard the screeching and looked in the rear view mirror just in time to see one of these PUNKS plow into him.

I know how you feel, 200k on a black 97' Z/71 purchased new, I am 100% confident in saying the L31 Vortec is the most reliable motor ever built behind the LSX/LQ engines. I would try and get the drive line, I really don't know if you can use the 4l60E since it is 4wd, I have always wondered that, incase someone were to plow into mine, I know most of the mechanical stuff would be going into my camaro or re built and put in some kind of weekend track car...

EC's 327

I can second the reliablity of the Vortec block, other than the pesky intake manifold gasket issue, the thing has been solid as a rock! Change the oil regularly and it was happy. I would bet that I could have gotten another 100K before needing rebuilt.

I am torn now. In reality, I only used this truck to tow the boat and basicly as a big ass wheel barrow. Gettin Mulch, dirt, lumber etc. In reality I only need something that will tow the boat ( around 3500 lbs. full of fuel and gear).

I am considering buying her back and parting her out, takeing the parts I can use on the camaro and selling the rest on craigslist but I have no idea what the parts are worth. I would probably keep the block and sell the Tranny, rear axle, maybe the front diff, and the transfer case, then get scrap value for the rest.

OK I need some help! The Insurance company gave me a super low ball number for my truck (4400). She says they found 9 private party truck and 9 dealer trucks to come up with the offer. I call Bull****. I am looking for adds for 1997 GMC 4x4 Z71 Pickups for sale. I would have thought there would be quite a few, but NOPE. According to her, I cant back my claim that the truck is worth what Kelly Blue Book says (Fair condition is 5615 and when I answered all of the questions honestly it picked Good which is 6165)

So what I need are trucks anywhere in the us (the closer the better) for sale. She says is has to be a GMC not Chevy, it has to be a 97, so I cant use 96 or 98s which are basicly identical.....

My Truck:

PBS has been running a documentary about teenage brains and adult brains behavior while driving. Pretty enlightening stuff (check your local listings) :D

Sounds like a case for judge judy. I'd say you've got proof. Glad nobody was hurt.

Please consider buying a heavy-duty 3/4 or 1-ton P/U w/ a really heavy-duty steel flatbed w/ built-in utility boxes in place of the stock bed and that has a thick full width and like 20" drop down vertical steel plate w/ a bottom flat full width piece of 3/4" plate steel that serve's as both a rear bumper and a towing hitch placement deal.

Make sure the hitch part and plate are tied back to the frame for rigidity!!

Park it out say 14"s away from the curve and the next time, just laugh as it get's ran into at speed and NOTHING happen's to it as the vehicle doing the bumping is totaled!

A short tired P/U here too so she's close to the ground!

Only deal is you may have to become DOT'd????

My long gone ex-boss back when I was in Construction had a 1-ton duelie w/ a bed like this on it that he used to pull the Simon form trailer with, talk about a hell of a stout bed!

You could push start the old P/U w/ a bulldozer and not hurt it!

Got the same problem here, curved street that people go way too fast down. When it rains they slide all over and into my neighbors and my front yards, hit trees. Half of them drive off if they can. Had one lady hit my Toyota after I just moved it out there.

Glad everyone is okay.

Back again, years ago in Macon, MO where the old real Hwy 63 came north into town, there was a side street that angled off before a store that curved around and then a block farther had a house, still there that has a steel, (I think RR rail??), fence in front of it b/c too many cars missed the slow curve and hit the house in the middle of the night at speed. It was short so it was lengthened w/ RR ties!

The place is still there but the old road has changed some..

I go by the place every time I go to Macon to visit my Nephew!
