No, the actual engine installed is not indicated in the Cowl or VIN data - other than the VIN will indicate if it was originally an L-6 or V-8. * If the VIN starts with 123378Nxxxxxx then the car was originally an L-6 * If the VIN starts with 124378Nxxxxxx then the car was orginally a V-8 The Cowl will always read 12437(coupe) or 12467(convertible)... The Cowl also decodes: 68 = year model 12437; 1 = Chevrolet Division 24 = Camaro product line 37 = Coupe body structure assembly NOR = Norwood, Ohio final assembly plant 110299 = 10,299th body assembly Certain option combinations and other spotting features can help narrow the original drivetrain confiquration.
