: Z/28 YES OR NO help asap
LUCKYSTAR2990818 Apr 9th, 09, 03:23 PM Ok I need help. I looked at a car today for the 2nd time. I think it is a real Z/28. I took a bunch of pictures today but I do not know how to post them. Can I email them to someone and you post them for me? The story goes like this. The grandfather was the only owner of the car. The family does not know much about the car or if it was a Z/28. There is no cowl tag no motor no trans
It has
front disc brakes
12 bolt rear
8 grand tach
found a bunch of Z/28 emblems
vin #124379n702140
it was a light green with light green interior
Any one can help me please.
here is my 1 st post about the car

Vintage 68 Apr 9th, 09, 03:28 PM Look for the speedo-cable hole (and speedo cable routing if it's still there) - post back where it is...
Pull the rear seat back and look on bulkhead - is there any writing on it?

LUCKYSTAR2990818 Apr 9th, 09, 03:45 PM JC You have mail please post what ever pictures you think will help me
THANK YOU AGAIN !!!!!!
alanrw Apr 9th, 09, 03:47 PM Boy, I would think the missing cowl tag really diminishes the value of the car. Even if you could verify it, it would still be a tough sell down the road.

jcdubs Apr 9th, 09, 04:24 PM Can't open other pics Dave, It could be my pos computer.
LUCKYSTAR2990818 Apr 9th, 09, 04:25 PM What do you think it is worth with out the tag?
jcdubs Apr 9th, 09, 04:26 PM That sucks the tag is missing.
iluv69s Apr 9th, 09, 04:26 PM Besides the obvious, I notice the single fuel line, the speedo cable routing and the cowl induction throttle rod.....all good signs of an original cowl induction Z.....you could also check for DS frame exhaust hanger plate and check the date code on the rear to see if it matches the VIN date.....
...but honestly the car without the cowl tag is probably worth as much...or as little..as a non Z-28.....
I wonder where the cowl tag is now????
LUCKYSTAR2990818 Apr 9th, 09, 04:27 PM JC I see you live in NJ also where abouts? Thanks for posting the pictures I will resend the last ones. I'm in North Jersey

LUCKYSTAR2990818 Apr 10th, 09, 05:18 PM Here is the update...Iwent to pick the car up trailer and all. To find out he can not find the title...Maybe Monday...
William Apr 10th, 09, 05:39 PM Maybe a good omen. That car is extremely rough.
hihorse Apr 11th, 09, 08:31 AM Who ever pulled the tag must of liked the color combo?
NHBandit Apr 11th, 09, 09:17 AM If you're planning to build the car yourself the title might be a problem unless you go through a title company. If you're looking to flip it for a small profit there are lots of states such as NH that don't require a title on something that old. 10-20 years ago I'd have said that's a parts car. Now it might be worth rebuilding but with the tag, motor & trans all missing it will never be taken seriously as an original Z/28
madmax87 Apr 11th, 09, 01:58 PM One thing the car does have going for it is that tach was only used on 2 applications. 396/375hp and Z/28. Since the heater box is for a small block, maybe. Like the rest say, unless you can find the build sheet (is gas tank still there) or X77 on or X33 stamped behind top of rear seat, it would very hard to justify. Pitman arm will also be 5.75" in length.
LUCKYSTAR2990818 Apr 11th, 09, 03:13 PM Yes the gas tank in still there as soon as I get it that is the first thing i'm going to look for. How much do you think it is worth?
madmax87 Apr 11th, 09, 03:40 PM It's really hard to say with just the few pics you have posted. It looks like just surface rust but the interior is a little scary. The 12 bolt is worth some cash. The gas linkage rod coming from the pedal linkage is wrong for a Z but that may have been changed with an engine swap. It was a console car. I'm just guessing with what is shown is 5-8K. Whats he asking if you don't mind?

the 8k tach was ONLY used on the Z28, NOT the L78, that was a 7k tach with the 6k redline, just like the early build Z28's ...
