A friend of mine has a Z11 project car. It is missing the original motor/trans but he has a 69 396/4 speed to go in it.(was originally a BB car). All of the other original parts are there. What do you think he could get for it if we did a complete rotisserie resto. Lets say the car was mint, just like new. How much value is lost due to the incorrect motor? Thanks, John

John what evidence is there it was a BB Pace Car to begin with? Those are pretty rare so maybe do more homework on that issue too. Pics would really help alot as condition has so much to do with value.
If it can be proved it was a BB Pacer, in mint condition, without original drive train, then between $40k and $50,000 would not surprise me. The market can be fickle with non original engine etc. lets see what others have to say.

I don't think big blocks add that much to a PC value over an equal condition small block. Maybe another 5 to 10K unless its something like an L78 which could double the value over the equal SB car.

I don't think there would be much trouble getting 40K for a driver SB pacecar (like mine) with or without the original engine, so a BB should go in the 45 to 50K range. Trailer queen, like new ones, could probably command 60K (SB) to 70K (BB) with the original drivelines, and an L78 (with paper) will probably clear 6 figures.

Entry level for a clapped out rusty roller is still near 20K.

Thanks guys, The only ways to tell if it was a big block car that I know of are the heater core, frame motor mounts or front springs. Are there any other ways to tell? The car has the BB heater core, but that could have easily been changed at some point.

The bid blocks also have bigger valve covers! :D

That would sure be a nice find if it was.

Mark is right on. I just went through a 16 month search for my pace car, and those are the numbers. Forget BJ pricing. This site is where the rubber meets the road on Camaros.

The Tach Boys, check the tach. An original one is dated on the back side with an ink stamp. Linkage, and bell crank too! Also the radiator if its still there.
