I am getting ready to replace the headliner in my 69 and found the tack strips are missing. According to other postings thes strips are metal with a cork material in the middle. Does anyone have any suggestions for an alternative tack strip that can be used or fabricated?

The dimensions of the tack strip would also be helpfull.

I think they are available at repro houses or you can check ebay for a set.

I was looking for some a while ago and couldnt find them reproduced.......but maybe they are.

If u cant find any then you could go to a fabric store or upholstery supply store and buy tacking strips for upholstering chairs.....they are made out of the same type of hard carboard. You would have to cut them to size to fit the camaro.

I did find one source but they wanted 195.00 for the pair. I know I could fabricate somthing for that kind of money. I just do not know how they mount and if anything else attaches to the tack strip.

I am all for finding decent alternatives. I see where the strips are screwed to the body but are the strips mounted so the face is flush or are they set back. When I purchased the car there were no sail panels and the headliner was just hanging.

Mount with a screw at each end, a thin strip of paneling, or a strip of yard stick should work. they just glue the head liner to keep it tight behind the sail panel. You can probaly
find the screw holes for lenght, the width could be wider, It's hidden.

That is simple enough. So the sail panels do not mount to the tack strip at all? So width should not be too important.

Correct, just to glue headliner to.

I personally will not purchase any thing from them but Heart Beat City has the tack strips for $35.00 a par. Do a search for Heart Beat City then after getting to there site key word Sail Panel.

Thanks for the information Roger. Any particular reason you would not purchase from them? I ran a search and they do have them in used condition only.

Heat Beat City is the only dealer I know of that sales counterfit trim tags. I believe that is wrong because a plan jane Camaro is becomeing extinct and encourages fraud in our hobby. I am not saying no one should buy their part from them but I am not.
