View Full Version : watching Barrett / Jackson and......
dubs68camaro Apr 10th, 09, 08:52 PM We debate this a lot on the Mustang forum. I know the economy is all jacked-up and what not, causing prices to come down............ but oh man!!
I can't believe how low some Chevys are going. Am I looking at this right? All these Vettes, Camaros....the cherry 69 Chevelle SS 325hp/396 that just sold for $35,000?????
camaromaniac Apr 10th, 09, 09:02 PM Appears so. It's definately a buyers market, but then you need to like what the seller has done with the car. Most of the sales barley cover the cost of the vehicles & parts, but nothing for labor costs. Gives a new meaning to a "labor of love"!

dubs68camaro Apr 10th, 09, 09:07 PM Scary to think what these guys have into the resto and what they are getting back. Wonder how many of them even got to enjoy the car besides looking at them parked in the garage/shop?
camaromaniac Apr 10th, 09, 09:09 PM Soooooooooooooooooo true! That's why I will never buy/build a trailer queen!
dubs68camaro Apr 10th, 09, 09:47 PM If you look at my signature line.....I paid $2,700 for that fastback and she runs, drives and stops. I like getting into them so cheap that there is no physical way I could ever lose money on that thing!!!!
ProdigyCustoms Apr 11th, 09, 03:34 AM Keep in mind they are all show cars through a video camera. In real life most of those cars are not that nice, are not original engines, are not original cars, are not all they appear to be on TV. I can assure you that most of the killer cars are safe at home until things loosen up a bit, which does seem to be happening slowly. So right now Barrett is filling the show with what they can get.
But yes, the irrational exuberance of paying top dollar for average stuff is behind us for sure. Buyers are most educated and more cautious then in years past. And that is a good thing for the hobby.
SPARKY69 Apr 11th, 09, 04:44 AM Its about time these cars are coming back down to reality!!!!!!!!!!!

There's always pros and cons to high prices. Yes when prices are high people can't afford them but its also good for the hobby because cars that are rotted would be salvaged and restored instead of scrapped.
captcanuck68 Apr 11th, 09, 07:28 AM So, you can imagine what the guys think who are not in the car hobby think when they see a '69 Cam go for $250,000 as it did last night for that charity car...kinda puts an unreal spin on the whole affair...I guess even some who are in the hobby think differently?

Dan E. Apr 11th, 09, 07:45 AM I've never considered Barrett-Jackson to be a realistic standard for pricing classic cars, too many people get caught up in the atmosphere, are influenced by the crowd, tv cameras etc. It only takes two people to make an auction. Remember you don't get to sleep on it when considering one of these purchases. Just my opinion.

Amen X2, That 69 pacecar that sold night before last for i think $35k was hideous to say the least, thats junk selling for those prices.
CGFlyer61 Apr 12th, 09, 07:48 AM I didn't catch the exact comment Mike Joy made about the pace car, but it was a reference to the amount of rust on the car. Did anyone hear what he said? I think he was implying it was in rough shape. For 35K, I hope it was at least matching numbers.
Funny, we have these discussion EVERY time Barret Jackson has an auction. They definitely have an effect, both up and down.
