I don't have one installed. That means I don't have back up lamps working either. You guys know which type fits in my car? See picture:

I have some wires that confuse me. I thought the violet and violet/white wires are the ones for the back up lights? The previous owner have connected them together, I don't understand why.

I also have two "open" wires, are these for the safety part of the switch?

The violet and violet white wires are the neutral safety swith, that's why they are connected together. (car won't start if they are not!)

That link is the correct switch for a 67 though I have no idea how it attaches.
It looks like maybe the matching connector has been hacked off your car?

The other 2 wires must be the backup light, tho I'm used to pink for power and green for the light on a 68.

67? yes the switch you post is correct. The violet and violet/white wires (purple) are the 'start' circuit, the other wires are for your backup lights. Since your wiring at the switch is cut, might consider a new console wiring harness.

How do I test the other two? As I understand it, the wires from the back up lamps are connected together (one wire in the bundle) and the other one is 12 Volts for the power. Then I should be able to just put the two together and the lights should come on?

The switch attaches with two screws, you can see the holes in the first picture.

Yes, connecting the other 2 wires should make the backup lights come on.

I connected the black and the blue wire, switched on the ignition and Eureka! Back up lamps working!

I'll order a new one, install it and splice the wires together. Problem solved!

I managed to install this switch, but it's not the correct one. I could only attach it with one bolt, but that worked OK.
Problem is, the switch doesn't work the way it should. In PARK, the ignition works. It also works in various other positions as well.
The back up lamps don't work in R, but comes on when the shifter is in 2.

So now I don't know what to do. I can't find a switch that matches my set up.

What style shifter do you have in your car? Is it the horseshoe (upside down U) shifter? The switch you listed and got is specifilcally for that type of shifter. It should attach perfectly. Does your setup look like the pic below?

No, It's not a horseshoe shifter. It's a "single" shifter. It is what you see in the top picture (top of picture is forward), and the switch attaches on the left side. I've had another look, and I think I can make a bracket to keep it in the right position.
I'm not able to adjust it far enough forward, that is why the back up lamps come on when the shifter is in 1 or 2.
The quality of the switch is not very good.

None of them. The one on the right is probably the one that would fit best, but I have a TH 350 tranny, and not a powerglide.

Yes, that's right - I forgot you had the link to the switch you got. It does look like the one on the right would fit better. It looks like it would mount to the two little holes that your shiftier picture shows and the plastic U-notch would sit on top of the metal tab that's part of your shiftier. The switch you got really seems a bit "off" as all the other websites show one of the two I posted. Anyway you can return it and order another one? May as well fix it right and you can continue to drive your car as the switch doesn't make or break you.
