I had my heads cleaned up a while back with slightly bigger valves and kept the original springs because the shop said they were ok. Before I put them on I also decided to do over the block and got a new cam in it. I put it all together and just did the cam break in.

After doing this I realized the cam suggest new springs also, which I am going to get. Could I have damaged the cam at all? The break in went ok aside from it running very rich. The heads were clacking a little but thats probably because I didn't tighten the rockers enough. I could wiggle them all a bit before I broke it in

Thanks

Chris

Normaly it is recomended to use a weak spring for brake in, You can even remove the inner spring to break in

If you trust the people at the shop that said your springs were ok , I would just readjust the valves and call it done:thumbsup:

I trust the shop completely but when they redid the heads I was just going to put it back on the original block and cam. I did not know at that time I was going to get block work also.

It's a hydralic comp cam with new lifters and push rods. I went on the comp cam site and it said wont work with stock springs so I think I should change them unless people have had no problems with stock springs.

Engine is a 396 btw.

Thanks

If I do get the springs that Comp recomends can I just pop them in or do I have to worry about spring height and spacers?

Thanks

YES change the springs !!! check with your shop and see what the installed height was on your old springs then adjust what comp says for the new ones.
