View Full Version : Best plug wires?
Greg O Apr 13th, 09, 08:20 AM I started using solid copper core plug wires 15 years ago because the suppression core wires would break down due to header heat. I'm sure wire technology has advanced and I now have to move away from my beloved solid core wires to accomodate an MSD.
What wires have you guys had luck with? How long do they last?
Everett#2390 Apr 13th, 09, 08:33 AM GMPP, 500 ohms per foot.
pink panther Apr 13th, 09, 11:08 AM i run blue max moroso wires they last over hundred thounds miles or better. Harv
68rs406 Apr 13th, 09, 11:28 AM I have had excellent luck with Moroso and MSD superconductor wires, the MSD's are probably my favorite. I would not use anything Taylor sells personally, but most the rest of the higher end brands, and the more top models of them, are pretty darn good I think.

What's wrong with Taylor? I have not bought any lately but the last set I had worked flawlessly even in close quarters with cheap headers. MSD has been my choice of late simply due to every thing else I am running MSD

Every pair I have personally ever used or dealt with has been pretty crappy IMO. They seem real sensitive to heat and will melt quicker than the better ones, and the boots are overly large putting their surface closer to the headers, see above for the end result...;) .
I imagine like anything there are success stories with them, just every pair I have dealt with I found cheap and not really durable, just my experience. MSD and Moroso have been great for me on my cars and the race car.
67SS&99SS Apr 14th, 09, 09:00 PM I've got accel 300+ race wires on my 406 in the 67 and my 340 in my 'Cuda and they both seem to do very well. They have a 8.8mm core.
dawg Apr 14th, 09, 09:38 PM I use moroso ultra 40s
best wire out there thus far by a long shot.
ace's68 Apr 14th, 09, 10:08 PM Any 9mm+ race wire will get the job done.
MSD is good, the Blue 9mm+ moroso's are great, I absolutely hate taylor, accel is better but still pretty crappy.

Granted, these were bought 10-12 years ago and they may have changed quality control since then.
grumpyvette Apr 15th, 09, 06:27 AM another vote for taylor 10.4mm wires and heat boots

Cali Z28 Apr 15th, 09, 06:51 AM I run the Moroso Blue Max never and issue.....Used to run MSD but I found the boots loosened up and I had to keep crimping them
Lonnie67 Apr 15th, 09, 04:04 PM I really like the MSD super conductors, 40 ohms per foot. The grey boots they come with are excellent too. I've had the same set on my daily driver for 5 or 6 years. I recently replaced the boot that gets cooked under the #6 header tube, it was getting some cracks. The worst one still only has 140 ohms.
paulm Apr 15th, 09, 04:16 PM The wires that I bought are supposed to be really good and pretty much last forever I guess....

DenRS Apr 16th, 09, 06:52 AM I've used Accell 8.8 wires, Taylor spiro pro 8mm wires, and MSD super conductor wires. All have been great. I'm upgrading the 8.8 on my 69 to msd super conductors since I have a msd distributor and because I installed taller valve covers. A few of the 8.8 accel wires are a little too short, but other than that they worked fine. I bought the universal set so I can make them as long as i want.
Z15CAM Apr 16th, 09, 02:11 PM I highly recommend the Accel Extreme Heat 9000 Series. If you choose these get the STD V8 Kit and cut wires to length for each Cylinder.
rsbecool Apr 16th, 09, 05:35 PM I'm currently using Taylor Spiro pro series spark plug wires. I had no problems.
booman55 Apr 16th, 09, 06:16 PM I'll second the vote for Taylor's. I've never had a heat problem with them and I too have had them sitting against the headers.
I'm sure Accell, MSD and Moroso all good as well.
