does a car have more "value" if it's motor was built by a big-time, well known builder? the guy that built my 383 stroker falls into this catagory. He's worked for some big-name clients and one of his motors is on the cover of this months HOT ROD mag. (he's been on the cover 4 times now). I know there are a million other factors, but that's gotta be a big plus, right?

Interesting question... On one hand, if someone was looking for a drag car, then a "name brand" engine might be a big plus. On the other hand, if someone was looking more for originality, then it may not help. I suppose it would be in the "eye of the beholder".

As stated, depends on the buyer. I think you'd be better served to have all the paper work, engine build sheet & receipts from the builder than just the name.

Although having a "name" builder actually build your engine is a plus I think the parts used is a bigger and more valuable plus. Your engine is only as good as the parts used to build it. I think your car as a whole will dictate its value, not the gut who assembled the engine.

Having a name builder can also be a minus....these guys often personally build/supervise high profile customer, sponser builds, but when it comes to jow public engines these just go thru on the normal production line
Its the craftman that builds the high profile, the production line guy who builds joe publics

But at the end of the day, most get sucked into the ego thing of the engine is "built by namebuilder"

Nothing to add in the way of an opinion but it reminded me of a story that happened to me around 25 years ago. I was working in an auto salvage yard as a parts counter sales guy and was also responsible for inventorying the cars as they came in. I had a customer call looking for a 440 Chrysler engine and knew I had a nice one in a Jensen Interceptor which for those who never heard of them, is a British sports car. I sold him the engine over the phone for $700 and had to record the VIN off the block when he came to pick it up. To my surprise and his excitement, there was a tag on the block where the VIN should have been that said "Richard Petty Enterprises, Greensboro S.C." OOPS.............. I think I might have sold it too cheap ?

I had a TRACO ZL1 with a O-Dash casting code that had added value. TRACO was in California back then on a road nick named "Thunder Alley".

Thats a big buck classic car m8... Yep but that one had been rolled over & was beyond repair. If I remember correctly (it's been 25 years) it also had a 2 speed rear axle. Very cool car.
