Okay, the dumbest thing happened to me the other day. My carb's(Holley 650 HP) base plate cracked. I noticed it when I started it up and it ran for a little bit and shut off. graemlins/clonk.gif I quickily saw what happened and got real mad. graemlins/angry.gif I emailed Holley 2 days ago telling them that I've had nothing but trouble with this over-priced piece of cast zinc. I asked them if they sell just a base plate, but I have gotten no reply. My funds are limited (starving student), and Holley's are outrageous in price.

I was thinking about getting a cheaper Edelbrock or maybe one of their new Thunder AVS carbs. Does anyone have any experience with them in a performance street/strip application? Ideally I would just fix my Holley and move on, but nothings ever easy. Thanks for your time. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

A pretty common problem. Baseplates are available from Holley most dealers can order it for you.
You have to be super careful when tightening down the base plate bolts and use a thin gasket or thick with the plastic spacers around the studs.

What do you mean by list number? The part # for the carb, or the part # for the base plate?

The List number is stamped on the front of the driver's side of the choke air horn - it will read "LIST XXXX" - that's the number you want. Torque on those four nuts is 14-18 ft-lbs. - any more, and you risk cracking the baseplate. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Proform now sells billet Holley base plates and the price is fairly reasonable. I saw them in the most recent Jeg's catalog, but I bet Summit has them too. Much cheaper than a new carb.

First of all, I just wanted to thank everyone for their help. graemlins/thumbsup.gif The list number is 80541, then theres a space and 1, theres a number (2490) below that on the next "pad". Here's what it looks like.
LIST
80541 1
2490
I just got an email from Holley, and they said that my replacement base plate part # is 12R11298A. I don't know if that helps you any 68ragtop. ;) Thanks again. graemlins/waving.gif
