View Full Version : what rear end? americanmuscle666 Jul 11th, 02, 06:23 PM what would be the best rear end that can be narrowed and handle up to 2000HP? CFunK Jul 11th, 02, 06:57 PM Why? -Funk americanmuscle666 Jul 11th, 02, 07:15 PM i am looking for a rear end that i can put in my 67 camaro pro street. camcojb Jul 11th, 02, 07:17 PM The rear end you posted a pic of should work fine. Any reason you don't want to run that one? Jody CamaroNOTcamero Jul 11th, 02, 07:20 PM Best bet would be a nodular ford 9" with a chromemoly housing, and crossbrace, spool and Probably Pro gears. americanmuscle666 Jul 11th, 02, 07:20 PM im not sure if that type of rear can be narrowed to fit 15" wide wheels. ive finally got all the money to purchase it and now im just kind of having second thoughts. i dont want to get a rear that cant be narrowed. camcojb Jul 11th, 02, 08:34 PM Have you called them yet? That was a Pro Mod rear end. It works on cars with tires as big or bigger than you'll need so it should work. You can't need a bigger tire/wheel combo than one of those cars. Jody CamaroNOTcamero Jul 11th, 02, 08:49 PM They use these in Pro stock/mod so i'd think you'd want to use a 9", if you cant narrow a 9" small enough for your application get a wider car or use narrower tires becuase you wont be able to narrow any other rears more. CamaroNOTcamero Jul 11th, 02, 08:51 PM IMO a good housing would be chris alston's FAB9 9" housing with a 4-link, back brace and he has a couple other braces on there. americanmuscle666 Jul 11th, 02, 09:10 PM i guess ill contact the mark williams dealer and find out for sure. camcojb Jul 12th, 02, 06:22 AM I just got one of the Fab 9's with bracing for my Camaro. Very nice piece but I'm don't think it's made for 2000 hp. Jody pdq67 Jul 12th, 02, 07:35 AM I don't know, Dana 60 out of a truck set up the way you want it??? MOPAR ran them behind their powerful street engines in the latter '60's and early '70's. pdq67 CamaroNOTcamero Jul 12th, 02, 07:57 AM Pro mods use 9"'s i think it'll handle the application. camcojb Jul 12th, 02, 10:20 AM Camaro, You're quite possibly right. The housing just doesn't look THAT strong to me, but maybe it is. I would think at 2000 hp you're looking at billet everything to survive. Jody CamaroNOTcamero Jul 12th, 02, 01:28 PM I'd think it plenty strong, depending on how heavy the car is. Pro Stock/Mod, outlaw street, ect ect, are usually running these and those cars are running in the 6's. Pro stocks that run nitrous systems spray a huge shot on the launch, and at least 2 more times and those rear hold up to that. You might need a modular rear housing, but i doubt it. If you do then call up mark williams and forefit your money! camcojb Jul 12th, 02, 03:17 PM I was at Chassisworks today to pick up my axles for the Fab 9. I asked him about the Fab 9 in a 2000 hp deal. He has one that will work; chrome moly housing, larger axle tubes and bearings, set-up for 4 link with larger rod ends, etc. Says there's a LOT of guys using them in Pro Mod. MUCH less money than the other deal you're looking at. I'd give them a call. http://www.cachassisworks.com/ Jody americanmuscle666 Jul 12th, 02, 07:59 PM alright...ill check that one out too CamaroNOTcamero Jul 12th, 02, 08:15 PM couple more things you'll need to know. 40 spline axles, gun drilled. And a Steel Spool. cavemanmoron Jul 13th, 02, 02:19 AM ask warren johnson, etc ------------------ '67 RS 427,4 Speed Disc brakes, console, fold down rear seat, heater, Radio Delete, Cowl hood, front, rear spoilers, Black/black; white bumblebee stripe Click to see my Camaro (http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/cavemanmoron/vwp?.dir=/camaro+pics&.dnm=67rscamaro427email.jpg&.src=ph&.done=http%3a//photos.yahoo.com/bc/cavemanmoron/vwp%3f.dir=/camaro%2bpics%26.dnm=%252767%2bCamaro%2bRS%2bSS%2b 427.jpg%26.src=ph) |
