Looking at buying a 68 SS RS drop top. IS there a web site to get a duplicate build sheet or invoice? I get nervous so many clone cars and rare wanna be's. Where do I find true production #s? Forgot VIN 124678N398814

View Full Version : 1968 SS RS Convertible ehauto1 Apr 22nd, 09, 09:49 AM Looking at buying a 68 SS RS drop top. IS there a web site to get a duplicate build sheet or invoice? I get nervous so many clone cars and rare wanna be's. Where do I find true production #s? Forgot VIN 124678N398814 Eric Kammerer Apr 22nd, 09, 10:40 AM Unless the car was originally sold in Canada, no such records exist. The Camaro Research Group site has a lot of well-researched, well-written info. You can check out drivetrain decoding info too. http://www.camaros.org/index.shtml Unless it has the original drivetrain, it will be hard to verify SS. If it is a 4-speed car, it has to have the speedo cable in the Muncie position (near distributor/wiper motor) and the hole should be punched, not drilled/cut. Hood should be an SS domed hood with 28-coil hood springs. RS is the same deal; can look for clues to rule it out. Stamped holes (not cut) for rear reverse lamps. Punched hole (not drilled/cut) for RS headlight vacuum hoses in correct location to the driver side of the fuse box. You can host pics someplace like Photobucket and have them show up here, using the [IMG] coding, if you want help verifying that stamped numbers are real, and any of the other little details you question. Good luck, and welcome to Team Camaro! ehauto1 Apr 27th, 09, 04:15 PM Sorry it took so long to get back they have kept me very busy. Where are all the places to possibly find build sheet? Also did they make any Canadian RS/SS cars? The bad problem like most older cars motor is gone. It is an automatic car so that does limit it to the 325HP or the 350HP. If it has the original trans in it are there any codes to find that may help the identifying process? Thanks Bruce ehauto1 Apr 29th, 09, 11:25 AM Thanks so much for your help. Bruce |
