OK - I have not seen the car yet (will see this Friday???), so all I have is what the owner told me. The car isn't "exposed" to the open market... yet. I found it by a fluke. I will be going with at least one Camaro Expert, possibly two whe I go to look. Here's what I know, or at least what the owner told me:

ALL original... drivetrain, interior, paint, etc.
396--- hsp??? - (says it's a 375, but I couldn't pin him on it
4 sp --- says it's an M-22
Butternut Yellow
Black Deluxe interior, Console. Vigilent lights,

So, let's assume that it is what he says it is, ...

WIW if it's:

Condiiton:
5 out of 10 = $_________
7 out of 10 = Add $________
8 out of 10 = Add $________

350 hsp
Deduct $______

325 hsp
Deduct $______

I am going on the assumpion that it is a solid car, no major rust issues, and all of the "Important" stuff being there, with maybe a few minor "issues" that, once addressed, would make it a survivor/driver.

Oh yeah... almost forgot :D

Says he has the POP, original bill of sale, original owner's packet, is the second owner, and is "low miles"... whatever that is

Not sure what the adder is for Butternut yella :stirpot: 20k?

The 375 (assume L78) horses would be a rare find IMO...not sure how many were built?...the paperwork is certainly a bonus...Did it have a black vinyl top?

Butternut Yellow is a big plus for me. There were no 67 Camaros produced with the 350 hp engine. The 375 hp (L78) had 1138 cars produced. If it is an L78 and very good condition (no rust ect.) with the documentation you have said, and possible original paint and survivor statis, I would guess well above $50,000. But depending on the condition of the car and the parts that might be missing or body damage and non original paint, it could be quite a bit lower. JMHO

I don't know but I would imagine that if it did have a vinyl top he would have mentioned it. But this was a strange series of conversations, so I will not have any real answer until I see it.

I guess the Butternut is one of those Love/Hate things. I have a Fathom Green 69, which a lot of people seem to dislike... I happen to like it.

Never knew the 350 hsp wasn't an option for the 67's... thanks for the info

Any guess as to how much off of the $50k it would detract if it were a 325 hsp? I have no clue.

If its a numbers car, low miles??, with docs and has the 396/325hp option i would still say its worth 40k easy.

L78 of the same description i agree with Russ...well over 50k. For me personally thats the holy grail of first gens.

I friend recently sold a 68 RS SS 325 hp auto car that I used to own. It was butternut, loaded with options, Orig drivetrain and he started out asking in the 40's ? and ended up taking about 35K. It went out of the country I think. It was a nice car. Butternut is a bad color to sell.

If the seller said it's an M22, then it's not original to the car. In 1967, only the Corvette L88 (427/430) got these transmissions, and only 20 were produced.

My assumption would be the 67 of the same description would be worth a bit more $$. Based on 67s seem to be second in terms of value behind 69s and the fact of 67 Big Blocks being more rare. Again, an assumption.

True enough. My guess would be its an M21 and the guy just doesnt know... But only 1 way to tell for sure. Looking forward to hearing back after you see it. Pics please!

Thanks for the input... very much appreciated. It looks like the journey begins tomorrow. Fortunately I will be going with some people that know a whole lot more about these cars than I do, especially the 67's. Camera is charging and I will post pics if the seller allows me to take them.

Not quite sure what to expect, but it should be an interesting ride. I am getting all kinds of mixed messages, so I don't know if the seller is playing possum, ignorant, or trying to pass something off that isn't the real deal :confused::confused: - Says he has a 69 PC, 69 BB Road Runner, 63 Split Window Vette, etc. etc. etc. ---- Should be an interesting day. I'll keep you posted, and thanks for the input.

One thought - If it has the original motor, assuming a 375 hp, but is missing the original trans, what whould that knock the value?

RSSSfanatic

wrong trans probably wouldn't hurt the value that much - a grand or two at the most.

67RS/SS396 --- Question - Is there any significance to that pic in your profile pics of the tire pressure sticker? I guess what I'm asking is if it has any special coding on the sticker that speaks, "Big Block"?

Possibly, sb, bb and z's have different tire pressure stickers, but cars could also be order with the same tires as SS cars and not be an SS. It's still under research. There was also a thread about a change about mid year on the 4 pass. to 5 pass. or vice-versa. Plus I don't know if it makes a difference but 1 is an LA car the other is a Norwood built.

I'd say Tony W's car is a great example and fairly priced. Nice car Tony! If the one you look at is anywhere as nice, you should buy it...I know that I would :)

I'd say $30k tops. I know of a documented, loaded, PERFECT red/red 325hp car that wont sell at $35k.

Wow... I'm as sorry for myself wasting a perfectly good day as I am for getting you guys involved. I got a friend to drag me 2+ hours form my house (I can't drive right now) only to have the clown tell me he's not interested in selling the car anymore. I talked to the guy and / or his brother at least 6 times in the last 3 days, including this morning before I left. He led me around like a fish, I drove all the way over to his house, and he wouldn't even take me to see the car.

I went there expecting to look at several cars and all I got to see was a 2nd gen car that I wouldn't take if he gave it to me. He showed me some pics of another 67 he would sell me, but it wasn't anything I would be intereted in. Then he started telling me about all these cars he and his brothers and cousins supposedly own but nothing was at his house... they are supposedly scattered around the area in warehouses, storage areas, etc. What a waste of time. I tried for a 1/2 hour to convince him to take me to at least look at the 67 BB, offered to buy him lunch, whatever. He just shrugged me off and said he and his family talked it over and they decided they wouldn't want it sold. Pretty much the worst car hunting experience I've ever had... sorry guys

Really???? Is it advertised openly? I'd like to take a shot at it if it's really that nice :)

I had a pretty good idea of what I could possibly expect before I went down, but I took a shot anyway. Nothing ventured, nothing gained... right? Besides... what else do I have to do :D - I've been cooped up in this house for almost 2 months and I'm going stir crazy so, if nothing else, I got to hang out with a couple of cool guys from TC, have a killer mexican mean, drink a couple of beers, and shoot the breeze.

But these guys take the cake as far as clowns in this hobby. while not my first rodeo, this was pretty far beyond the fence for low life. Even if he decided not to sell it the least he could have done is let me check it out. He asked me, "Why do you still want to see it if you know I'm not interested in selling it?" and I said, "Because --- if in 3 months, or 6 months or a year from now you change your mind, and I like the car, I will be standing in the wings with the cash!.\" He aknowledged the rationale, but still refused to take me to see it.

But, there were enough things he said that lead me to believe that, if it is a real deal, this guy doesn't know what he;s talking about anyway, so who really knows. Farmboy made the right call in suggesting that we not hook up the trailer before we left, so at least we didn't drag that beast up the road.... paid for a couple of Modelo Negro's :)

It sounds to me like the guy was a compulsive liar and did not own the car he was trying to sell.

I was told... before I even went down there... that these guys are "Car Gypsies". I had never heard that term before, but now I understand exactly what it means.
