I've searched the web and the CT archives, and can't find sqat on converting to methonal. I know that it takes about twice as much alcohol, but can you convert a regular carb to alcohol by just changing the jets, and the needle and seats? What about idle circuits and air bleeds? If anyone has a web site or info, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks DR

the only reason to switch to alcohol would be for racing. Alot of ppl in the racing feild are using alcohol. Many dragsters and a good amount of door cars. From what i have gathered, the best way to do it is to go to a company that sells alcohol carbs and buy one set up for you`re combination, otherwise it can be alot of dead end roads before you get it set up proporly. Also alot of guys have said that it works alot better with a hood scoop because the carb starts to sweat on humid days under a cowl hood. The other way is injection. It seems that injection needs the right person to tune it, but when it is tuned proporly it is deadly consistant. ALOT of dragsters are going to alky injection nowadays, and a good amout of fast door cars are switching. I work the gas trailer at my local track on daterdays and they guys who use alky usually get 15-20 gallons a weekend, where are the gas guys get 5. Alcohol also keeps you`re car alot cooler, a friend of mine build a dragster thats on alky with a carb and he said the first day he had it he was driveing it around and it wouldn`t warm up, so he thought something was wrong and went back to his trailer and he was almost out of fuel, he realized that for warming up the car, he needed an additional fuel tank with gas and was spraying a mix of gas and alky to warm it up, when he races its straight alky. If you are a racer and would like to know more about alky set ups the best place for that, or any racing info is Dragraceresults.com and go on their message boards, if you go to old posts you will find HOURS upon HOURS of reading material, and they have some very knowlageable racers, engine builders, chassis ppl, everything you`ll need to get set up. Good luck.
