They said there was a 2K upcharge over sticker. I told them there was no way I was paying more than msrp and was walking. They waved the 2K.

Won't know the build date for a couple of weeks. :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Smart man to have balls and walkaway and make 2K that fast. What do these guys think, you can't come back another day or go to another dealer and save 2K? Congrats!!!!!!!!

They didn't make a big deal over the 2K, just said "You know we're charging 2K over sticker". I told them I wouldn't pay it, don't need any car that bad, and would go buy an '09 Mustang GT and get $3,500 cash back. They told me some dealers are charging 5K over sticker  Just told them I wasn't paying anything over sticker and if I had to, I was on the way to the Ford dealer, that I was serious about buying a car today. They backed right off and waved it. No anger or anything, just a cordial conversation. :)

Shouldnt you never pay whats on the sticker? I understand its a brand new car and all but I always thought thats where the bargining begun, especially with the economy the way it is? I say this as I just recently bought a brand new Tundra with a sticker price of $42k and walked out paying $34K?

No Bargaining, no rebates, no low financing rates, no deals on the new Camaro. You pay sticker price or you don't get one. I guess they figure there's enough interest in them to not give any deals at all. They might give some deals in a year or so, depending on how they sell. You can get real good deals on '09 Mustangs right now, a couple grand off sticker plus $3,500 cash back, but not the Camaro.

Dealers did the exact same thing with the GTO's in the first part of '04. By the end of the year they could barely give them away. :(

Ford did the same thing with the GT500 Mustangs, First one I saw was like 15-20k over sticker on the showroom floor.

BERRY251- Did you buy the Tundra from dealer stock or did you order it. That might be the difference as to paying sticker price or not.

I guess the profit margin (to the dealer) is pretty tight on these, GM has left no room for the dealer to cut pricing. I went on Edmunds.com to get the invoice price on my car. Dealer invoice was only $1,700 less than sticker. I know nothing about how this works, I've heard that dealer invoice is not reality, and on most cars theres a cash holdback
or manufacturer to dealer cashback. Not sure if thats the case with the new Camaro. Maybe someone "in the know" will chime in?

Glad to see you got it for sticker. Lots of dealers try to pull that crap, it makes me mad. I give the dealer I work for credit they will not sell any car over sticker no matter what. We try to keep our customers coming back for there next car and service work.

No I did not drive, so glad to hear your experience! I have a G35X (ok not a camaro) but it is a 3.5L with 306 HP and man does it go! So I was pretyy confident that a Camaro RS with 304 HP and 273 lbs of torque would serve us just fine.

Bankruptcy does not mean "out of business". It is a time for restructuring and making a business leaner. It could lead to closing doors, but I can't see that happening with GM. I'm guessing my car will be built before the end of June, if they ever did close the doors, that would take months and months. FYI, I had to put 2K down to order the car, I'm really not worried about losing it, GM will survive this.

Govt will keep GM open- no worries. The surviving firm will be Caddy, Chevy and perhaps Buick, say goodbye to Pontiac, Hummer and Saturn! Not sure about GMC? You only need to put down $1,000 for a new Camaro order, so risk is low!

Domestic dealers receive what is known as "holdback", which is generally between 3-4%- not a ton of money on a car costing the store $30K plus if you ask me.

Just remember that virtually no dealership new car sales operation is profitable in the auto industry. The profit is made in the service and parts department. In many ways, the sales department's function is simply to increase the UIOs (units in operation) in an attempt to feed the service bays. This has been the case for several years now,and is even true of those we consider "hot brands". The new car dept operates at a loss most of the time. Margin on a car varies from 12-15%. Manufacturers have lowered the margins in an attempt top hold the MSRP in line with current economic realities. There is alot more percent markup in a cup of coffee these days. :)

But... CONGRATS on the purchase.!

I called GM's customer service number to make sure the dealer was giving me good info. They told me that it takes up to 2 weeks for GM to issue an order number for the car you ordered.

This was the same thing the dealer told me. Check with your dealer at about the 2 week mark or so. Once they give you the order number you should be able to track it. 800-222-1020 GM customer service (although they highly recommended we talk to the dealer first).

My neighbour is a engineer at GM (Canada) and brought home a 2010 Camaro SS about a month ago. Automatic with a manual mode and paddle shift on the steering wheel. I took it out and it went okay. ( It was wet out) Good brakes. ( Bremo) I spelled it wrong. Has about the same rear window vision as a Corvette and really small side windows. It may take a while for the look of it to grow on me, but all and all very solid and quiet.

How tough would it be for GM to give us access to a web cam on the production line so you actually could see your Camaro being built? Practically no cost. Seems like they would try to get some excitement going, but what do I know, heck I would have kept Pontiac and axed Buick.

No build dates for me yet. Just moved to event code 3000 on Thursday. Here are the codes for future reference:

1100, Preliminary order accepted
2000, Order accepted by GM
3000, Order accepted by production control
3100, Order available to sequence
3300, Order scheduled for production
3400, Order broadcast
3800, Order produced
4000, Available to ship
4104, Bailment Invoice
4200, Shipped
4300, Intermediate Delivery
4B00, Bayed
5000, Delivered to the dealer
6000, Delivered to the customer
9000, Order Cancelled

Also, make sure you talk to the inventory manager at the dealership. Salesmen typically don't know the detail once the order's placed. I went into my dealership and me and the salesman talked to the inventory guy. He let me look at the monitor while he pulled up my order. Great service!
