Got my BB running, and decided I all ready want more. I am currently running a box stock Gen 6 Vortec 454 with 8:1 forged pistons, Vortec Super Charger w/ 6-8 psi, Motec EFI setup. The car feels good, but I would like a cam and head change to get more pull on the top end. I am planning to spin the charger on up to about 10-12psi. What do you guys recemmend for heads & cam? The car is a brute out of the hole. I even thought of going with 3:73 gears insted of the 4:11's. The motor currently pulls to about 5200-5300. I run out of gear with the current set-up. Dilemma Gears? or Cam? can't afford both.

We need more info and see what your combo is now.

Is that 2" exhaust?? or 2" headers?
If its 2" exhaust then theres you problem.
But the cam is on the small size, so there is much power to be had there too, but one of the blower guys will have to help you there, LS angle doesnt sound right to me, but what do I know about blower motors. I'd drop the gear down some too, 373 or less would work good.

Sorry Exaust is 2.5", headers are 2.0"

Please consider going with CC's XS274S or N+LS6S, (Nostalgia grind), both ground on about 114 LCA's,(even though I like the older grinds better), but jmho, AND a set of 310 Canfields to help her take your forced induction or even just a regular rect. set from the General....

AND I'm torn between telling you to cam her more but am afraid you will lose too much lowend until she is "up on the pipe" as the "two-stroke" guys say..

You get your combination right and I bet the 2" headers will be fine....

I gotta feeling that 3.31's or 3.55's would do you great under boost....

And btw, the BB Vortec head's only have like a 235 cc intake port AND a way small exhaust port even though they do flow good. They are called large ovals, but really aren't, imho... Actually, GM made them to update the older "peanut port" truck heads which they did great!!!

All this making any since???

2 1/2" exhaust for a blown BB isnt good.
3" would be minimum, but I'd do a 3 1/2" system if you dont wanna loose any power.
Canfield heads are good. Also check out the new AFR BBC heads, they are a really good design.
And get a cam thats set up for a blower.

If you want to run 10-12 PSI boost look at a dedicated blower cam. I'm looking at the Comp NX274H -- specs are 274*/292* advertised, 230*/244* duration @ 050, .551/.568" lift, 113* LSA. That cam combined with a set of Canfield heads and 3" dual exhaust would really wake this puppy up.

I think you would pick up at least a full second in the quarter mile provided you can get it to hook up.

As usual good advice above. The first thing I would do "if" I were you, is upgrade the exhaust system, you are choking the poor engine with that 2.5". I think that alone will help your performance/mid range.

Your cam is not optimum with the 110lsa, should work fine for the lower boost level but, as Eric mentioned I would go to a blower cam if you plan on trying to make big power (something in the 112-114 lsa range).

Depending on your goals you really don't have to have the worlds best cylinder heads to make power with a blower. It doesn't hurt to have great heads but, depending on what you are trying to achieve it may not be needed.

One last thing you can get rid of some of that gear, blown cars typically don't need/like a lot of gear, they make so much torque. With the cam you have you are not going to have a lot of RPM so you should gear accordingly. You won't give up much (if any) off the line and you will MPH better.

Good info, I like the cam ideas. I do think a gear change and possibly exhuast is in order. It sound like the general consensus. Will the bigger cam work with the current heads, until I can afford some good heads?
