hey, i got my vortec's for x-mas, and i was wondering something... insted of buying a intake for the vortec heads, would the intake that i have on my 1987 305 work, that engine has the center bolt setup just the like vortec heads, so i dont see why that intake wouldnt work, what do you think??

the vortecs have 2 features that will not allow you to use your stock intake.
1- the intake bolt pattern is different. the vortec heads use 4 bolts per side, that stick straight up at either end on the intake flange. very similar to a small block Ford design, actually. you can have the old pattern drilled in, but then you have to deal with..
2- the intake ports are something like 1/4" taller. it is almost impossible to get an old school intake to seal the top of the roof off- i know this from experience.
the valve covers and rocker arms from the 87 heads will work, as well as the head bolts if you are cheap. Edelbrock and GM sell a good variety of intakes for the vortecs. get the GM gaskets, and a set of intake bolts from them, as well, regardless of what brand intake you finally end up with.

That about sums it up. Don't even think about using a regular style intake because even if you do get it to fit you will never get the performance you want.
