I posted something in the 2nd gen forum but maybe some of you guys might have an opinion as well. Been looking at this car and its really straight and clean. Could use some engine detailing and a headliner (only bad under close inspection). The original muncie is missing. Original LT-1 but the owner doesn't have the POP.

I called Hagerty and based on very good condition they gave me a value of between 36k to 42k.

How much do you believe the POP impacts the value of the car.

Does the Hagerty value range sound pretty accurate?

I have a 70 Z/28 (non RS) that is body off restored, matching #'s drivetrain, fresh interior, complete chassis rebuild, 3" SS exhaust. Car is equipped with a TH400 column shift trans, build sheet, partial owner history. I ran this through MECUM in FL this past winter but did not meet reserve ($1000 short). I would take 30K and I think this car is exceptional even though it has the TH400. Hagerty's estimate seems kinda high for a non RS car but I'm just a car guy, not an expert.

Sounds high to me.... I just found my old 70 Z/28 . I have the build sheet , non RS , #s matching , M22 no console with a 4:10 rear end and deluxe interior, tall 3 piece spoiler. Priced less than the bottom of your range

I would say those #'s are a tad high, especially in this economy.
Rally Sport option would add approximately 10-20% to the value...

POP does not help much if it is a NOR car, they put 28 or z28 on the tag. Also, having the orig LT1 engine helps. Not too many 70 Z's still have that.

They (70 z's) still seem to be selling in the 25k range all day long, especially 4 speed cars (which is where the POP might be useful that now that I think about it and re read the non #'s on the tranny).

30's seems high right now, but hey, what are the colors?

I still think the 70 Z's still have awesome potential for growth in worth in the future, which is only my opinion.

ChevyThinder, if it's a COPO car, i'd be scooping it up for that price! :)

I have not seen any similar cars sell for over 30K.

That price range sounds high to me. I have a 70 SS396 L78 car which is a lot rarer and it has the original #'s matching engine and GM of Canada documents and I'm priced in the $35K range.

Jeff, I still can't believe that you still have that car at that price. Matching numbers engine, Canada Doc's. What more could someone want? Paint maybe? Lose the spoiler? I dunno?

Sooperdave: It is almost impossible to tell if a 70 Z28 was a COPO9796 car, which is basically, the tall spoiler. There are three with buildsheets, and 5 that are accepted as "real" that I know of right now. One hint would be the original end caps off the 3 piece spoiler had a stamping from AO Smith on them. It is an interesting read on how the 9796 COPO came to be with SCCA racing.

I am trying to get the car but only because it is my old car , I have the build sheet I found under the passenger side seat back in 1980 something.

I know the spoiler is rare but I do not consider a 70 Z with a three peice tall spoiler a "COPO" in the sense of what most of us Camaro guys think of when COPO is mentioned . I just want it because it was my car when I was a kid. I need another car right now like I need a hole in the head..

Pics from 1984 are the only ones I have.. 1 1/2 pictures , now that's funny

Sooper... personally if I was in the market for a 70 I would rather have that L78 car. I looked at it last year (pictures) and that is what I would really like to have . Maybe you should check it out.

the one I've been looking at is priced well below the hagerty range but obviously I wanna buy low just in case I need the money and have to sell it quickly.

I think he'd take around 27-28k....

jeff - your black big block looks great in that pic!!

Dave, that L78 Jeff has is a "Super"Dave deal. I'd put steelies on it, remove the tall spoiler and she'd look (and run) mean! Very rare with 600 or so made.
