View Full Version : Clutch Return Spring
jjam Apr 28th, 09, 03:49 PM Help I have a 69 Camaro SB, I got under the car and I see I don't have a Clutch return spring... I see the hole on the clutch fork, but the spring is missing,,, I found a digram of it but it was for the 67-68 is the 69 the same? and find a spot on the frame?? clutch fork (spring) to frame? or some where else? Thanks :o
TraxUnderground Apr 28th, 09, 03:55 PM If you have headers instead of stock manifolds it needs to be hooked up somewhere else, at least on my BB it was. I'm not sure about a SB. I have a stainless clamp on one of my header tubes and the spring mounts to that.

69RS/Z28 Apr 28th, 09, 08:04 PM If my memory serves me, I believe the correct mounting for that spring is to the drivers side motor mount bracket. Mine has a little hole through the part that extends off the frame and the spring hooks right in there nicely.
jjam Apr 29th, 09, 06:05 AM thanks, yes I have headers with a SB. I have that diagram, but it was still alittle foggy. In the NPD book it shows a spring but it was looking alittle short so it also was throwing me off  Well let me crawl back under the car and see where/what I can do. Everyone Thanks I'll keep yal posted.
Chuck Apr 29th, 09, 07:30 AM I had to make one for my 67 with headers and a SBC. It hooks on the motor mount on the frame. I bought a bag of universal springs and bent up one to fit. Works great.

I made a bracket that mounts under the motor mount perch that re directs the spring around the headers. In some cases I have used a heavy coat hanger to fabricate a extension rod (bent different than the factory one) to get around the headers and oil filter.
jjam Apr 29th, 09, 01:34 PM ok, I see a hole in the clutch fork and one in the shaft asm. So do i make the spring for the fork or the shaft?
deerhunter Apr 30th, 09, 09:52 AM Fork. You want to hold the end of the fork against the adjuster.
