I was wondering what you all think a 4-bolt 512 block is worth these days. It has a H of 69 date code. It is only a bare block. Standard bore, no problems with it that I can see. The owner wants some parts I have and I said I might do some trading for the block but need to know what this is worth before offering a trade. Thanks!

Sort of depends. It's about too late for any 69 model, except Camaro (COPO). It would be correct for an early LS6. Does it have an engine code on it? With an MN or MO code, it would be worth $4-5K. As an LS6 (don't know the codes) my guess is it would be worth $1000-2000.

Sorry....I should have mentioned that it has been decked once. I can barely see whats left of some numbers on the pad, but cant make them out.

Sorry....it has been decked once.

The key to it's value are those numbers (and if the block is any good). Can you have another set of eyes look at it and see if they can figure it out? How 'bout a partial VIN stamped down by the oil filter? That will tell us what car it is out of. If it's an original 4 bolt, it'll be a L72, LS6, LS7, or a warrantee replacement block.

I will have to go back over there and look again for the vin #, I didnt think about looking down by the oil filter, I have a 69 Z with my original DZ motor and my vin is downd by the oil filter on it. I guess I thought the BB vins were still on the pad??? I dont think there is any way to see the numbers on the pad. I looked pretty hard, but I will take a good flashlight and a magnafing glass and look again to be sure.

Date sounds too early for an LS6 block so most likely an L72 or CE replacement motor. There are some late dated COPO's so that's possible. But without the engine code stamping or a partial VIN it's tough to really say for sure.

The asking price on E-Bay is usually around $2500 for a bare 512 4 bolt block, some ask for more, some less. Long shot but it could be from an L-88 besides ones listed above.

All you really have to make out is the last 2 (or 3) letters. Even if you all you can tell is if it has 3 letters, that will tell you a lot.
If it's a replacement block, all you have to determine is if it starts with CE9.

If you are making a deal to trade for the block, you should get it magnafluxed before you commit. You don't want to trade for a boat anchor.

I'll just take the block in place of the "little something" you never sent me.
(for the BE "COPO" 12 bolt housing I helped you sale for 10,000) :D

Sounds like Lee was used and then promised a little something for his help? A man is only as good as his word!Who do you trust?

Ok....Lee did contact me after posting my BE rear for sale and told me I was selling it to cheap, which I was! I didnt get 10k for it but it was a healthy amount more than what I was asking. I was very greatful!!, but in no way was Lee used as you put it.
Lee lives about 2-1/2 hours from me and we were going to meet up a few months ago and sell each other some parts, but never did. In fact we havent spoke since that time. This is the first I have heard from him. At that time I told him I had a little something I was going to bring down for him, nothing big just a little token of my appreciation.

So... Lee, if you get up to Indy or I get down to Louisville, I do still have that "little something" for you.

Now, on the block I am going to go back and look today so I will post what I find. He is a good friend of mine and I want to make sure its a fair trade for both of us. He also has a 2-bolt 69 dated 512 block sitting right next to it, does it have any real value? and should I get the numbers off of it?

Dont be sorry. I gave Travis several chances to make his word good with no avial. He listed a BE copo housing for 2,000 and didn't know what it was. He told me on the phone a week before the listing and was talking about hard times. When I saw the ad I thought about getting it for my own profet and decided he needed the money more than I did. He was the one that offered a finders fee(lill something) Travis is a nice guy but he needs to do what he says. He had my address to send but never did.

I'm a man of his word:yes:

This is getting good... Lee I have publicly said how thankful I was for what you did, and yes it was hard times and you helped me out. I never offered a finders fee as you put it. After a few weeks when the rear sold, I called you and said I had a "little something" I wanted to do for you. I never mentioned exactly what it was... I actually researched nice places to eat in your area and thought of getting you and your girlfriend a nice dinner certificate, I had a few ideas in mind.
You stopped taking my calls after Russ bought the 67 headrest seats on here and didnt need mine anymore. I know you guys were not happy with me because I didnt sell you my headrest seats, but after I sold the rear I really didnt need or want to sell them. Besides Russ bought better ones than mine anyway, and already done in the color he needed.
Why are you trying to bash me on here?? I tried emailing and calling for a while and finally stopped realizing you were not going to respond.

You have my number, if you want to talk about it call me!, but Im not going to get into a big argument on here with you. I have no hard feelings towards you at all! Call me or I will call you---in fact calling you now.
