I bought a 350 transmission to put in my 69 Camaro. It has a stock 10 bolt rearend nonposi. I was test fitting the speedometer cable and found the hole on the transmission where the speedometer cable hooks in filled with silicone. I removed it but there is no speedo gear. Is this all I'm missing because I do not feel anything inside the hole that would turn a gear ? Maybe I just don't understand how it works. Is there a gear inside the tailshaft to drive it? Can some explain and tell me what I need ? I took pictures of it.
Thanks

There should be a drive gear inside the tail shaft housing to drive the speedometer gear which would go in the part you have in your hand. That may be the only part you need but i would shine a light into the tail shaft and see if there is a drive gear on the shaft. If not you will have to remove tail shaft housing and replace this gear and get a speedometer cable drive gear with correct # of teeth for your rear end gear ratio for the speedo to be close to reading properly.Hope this helps.

actually that tail housing is off a olds, pontiac cadillac tranny. chevy has like a 1 inch hole in tail housing. you will need tire diameter and rear axle ratiothan call these people and they can hook you up with internal gear and clip. outside housing and gear also.go to 700r4/4l60 speedometers both the same.
