Since I have headers now and don't want to butcher my original lock-out linkage, I thought about finding a switch that mounts on the shifter to control the backup lights. Has anyone used this switch by Hurst? Any other suggestions for a switch? Thanks!

I just installed one of these the other day and it's working pretty well. However, with my shifter I had to modify the bracket to mount to a different bolt than specified in the directions. My only real gripe is that the plunger of the switch has to go pretty deep before the connection is made. Don't be afraid to mod the mount if you have to. I should also note, mine is on a 67 with a saginaw, not a muncie.

They work fairly well for me on a 68 and a 69 Camaro - maybe had them 2-3 years. I like having working b/u lights on a hotrod stick car. On a Muncie with a Competition Plus shifter I didn't need to modify it - it goes on the shift stop bolt with a jam nut. The bracket has enough flexibility so that you can tweak the alignment if you need to. For less than $30 I couldn't see the time/materials to make one myself so I just went ahead and bought it.

I used that switch when converting from a 700r4 to my Autogear M22W. I ran the B/U switch wires from the console harness back down through the hole that the old shift cable came through. Very simple install, and it works!

I use this switch, and it works pretty well. But the mounting bracket that comes with it is lightweight, and the force needed to depress the switch rod will bend it, especially when it's new. I found that after a couple times shifting into reverse, the bracket bent away from the shift rod, thus preventing contact at all. I eventually stiffened up the bracket so it didn't move when the reverse rod made contact with the switch rod. The rod will loosen up over time but at first you'll need to make some adjustments.

I mounted one on the back side of an M21. I did have to modify the bracket because when I engaged 1st gear, the linkage was hitting the top of the bracket and bending it outward so that when I engaged reverse, it was sticking out to far to depress the switch. Once I modified the bracket, it worked fine.

The Hurst shifter mounted backup light switch should work well.

It was used by Pontiac on the 1968 GTO Hurst shifter and on the 70-71 Mustang factory Hurst shifter and probably some other cars.

I mounted one on my M-21.Works great.I also hooked up a small LED light in my Gauge bracket that lets me know visually if i am in reverse.I had a near tragic experience at a car show where the parking attendant place me too close to a ditch on an Hill.Talk about doing some sweating.

I had one for a while and it worked when it wanted to. If it didnt work i just had to bend the bracket a little more. I finally decided to switch to 68 swtich/ linkagesetup that ismounte to the trans. IT always works. You need tocheckandsee if there is a small hole in yourreverse lever for the rod. Everything can be boughtfrom a resto house.
