Good Afternoon,

I am excited to say that I am already at the putting it back together stage. :hurray: The only thing is that I have come across something that I have read in many posts. It never really had an affect on me until it became my turn. Unfortunatly, most of my car had to be replaced with new sheet metal. I have read posts stating that these can be a pain in the butt to put together. Since I am at this stage I have come across this painful part. I have attached a few pics and am asking for your opinions, if the gaps you see in the cowl pic is normal, and how can I close this gap? I know I will need sealer after I weld the whole car together, so is this something I really should not worry about? The other pic is of the rocker attached to the firewall. If you look at the pic it shows the end of the rocker being bent inwards due to attaching it to the firewall. Can you guys please let me know if this is normal.

Thanks

Are my questions stupid? Have I offended anyone? Or did I just do something wrong. Everytime I post something I hardly ever get responses. Maybe I am toooo impatient? Sorry I just can't stop thinking about these gaps until I get an answer. I am itching to get to work on the car, but I am worried to get tooo far and then find out I have an alignment problem with the sheet metal.

I was just recently in your shoes while assembling my new repro front end, and discovered that the best thing to do is adjust it into place with your BFH. (Big funkin' hammer) It's an inside joke around the body shop.

Repro parts are nowhere near perfect and will need slight adjusting into place as you go. It's as easy as that. Before you weld anything in place though, post pics and ask for measurements. That helped me quite a bit! Hope this eases your mind...

and the inward tilting of the inner rocker IS normal... My car had and has it too.

Thanks Todd.
I checked the measurement on the first post you helped me with. It sits right at 4". Thanks for that. I just don't want to get to the end where I am finding it near impossible to align a door and then come to find out that the mis-alignment comes from something I did months before.

I completely understand what you mean. I have had the same thought cross my mind many O' times when I was at that stage. The good thing to keep in the back of your mind is that it's only sheet metal, and the worst that can happen is that you have to grind off the welds and start again. You'll be fine. Just keep checking in at each stage. I am sure someone will help out...

There are literally over 700 pics in my photobucket in my signature that you are welcome to copy and look at.

The bending in at the front of the rocker is normal. This is why Dynacorn started offering a two piece outer cowl. The original one piece had to be taken apart to get it to mount correctly. Look up tulip panel and you'll find my experiences with it.
