: gonna paint 2 hoods
okiemark May 3rd, 09, 09:16 PM My '68 project came with a cowl hood on the car but I also got the original hood. However, I have decided to go with a stinger hood on this project. So basically, I have 3 hoods for this car. I would like to paint the other 2 hoods now that I have decided on the color. I think it would be cool to have 3 hoods for a car although I won't be "swapping out" hoods.
How can I make sure my hoods will wind up matching the car and other hood that will be painted by my paint guy? (the car will probably be painted within 4 months or so.) Also, I've never painted anything before. On a scale of 1 to 10, how much am I biting off? thanks.
Zulu28 May 3rd, 09, 09:30 PM It just doesn't sound like a good idea to me if you are putting on stripes... if not though it prolly won't matter...
okiemark May 3rd, 09, 09:34 PM Stephen, I'm not putting on stripes. the "stinger" on the hood will be one color and the
rest of the car will be another color, no stripes.
67z28 May 4th, 09, 04:52 AM Have your body guy paint the other two hoods when he paints the car so the same paint mix is used and they should match.
HwyStarJoe May 4th, 09, 05:04 AM Why are you painting the other two hoods?
okiemark May 4th, 09, 09:34 AM I just want to do it. I've never painted before and just want to give it a shot, see how it comes out. I may just do it as he's doing my car so the paint will match. The cowl hood is already primerd and ready. Original flat hood needs to be stripped of 1 coat of original paint.
HwyStarJoe May 4th, 09, 09:40 AM Oh!
I get it now. Practice! Good idea.... and he'll be over your shoulder so you'll get good instruction.
okiemark May 4th, 09, 09:46 AM Joe: yes, practice and... "No, honey, I can't go to the store with you... I gotta get these
hoods done"
HwyStarJoe May 4th, 09, 09:49 AM
The Sleeper 327 May 4th, 09, 10:09 AM Just use the same mix of paint, and preferably spray in the same booth as the car. Hopefully where you are having this painted will allow you to give it some practice.
okiemark May 4th, 09, 10:44 AM the guy doing my paint is a buddy of mine so I'll have access to the same paint and booth.
tejasrs/ss May 4th, 09, 11:35 AM I thought about doing that with my original trunk. I didn't want to drill holes into a perfectly good trunk so I bought me another trunk (not a repro) that already had the holes drilled. I was thinking of maybe changing trunks (for the with and without the spoiler look). I haven't done it yet and maybe it's too late since I had the car painted 6 months ago. The original trunk is sitting in primer after it (along with the rest of the car) was sand blasted. Anyone have 2 trunks or 2 hoods like that??
okiemark May 4th, 09, 12:40 PM Armando: start a thread in this forum and you'll get lots of help. I bet there's plenty of guys that have that.
