Had been planning on a 2500 stall for our combo but beginning to think I may need a 3000. How streetable will it be? I've heard that your cruise rpm needs to be above your stall speed or the trans will have a tendency to overheat. True? Currently I have 3.08 that will be changed to 3.55's and a TH400 with 26 in. tires.(3211 rpm at 70). My concern is at speeds less than 70.(Most of the time). Am I looking for trouble???

Don't know what your combo is but my car does just fine. Cheap convertors make a lot more heat that a really good one but you have to consider the cost.

You'll have no problems with a quality purpose built converter. I've had a 3500 stall Vigilante converter in my car for 2 years and about 30,000 miles with no problems at all.

hey, i have a 3500 and my buddy has had two cars with 4000 stalls and no problems any where, just have a good converter and a heavy duty tranny cooler, also do not run it through your radiator as your engine in running 190 so your tranny will be at least that so if you don't run it through the radiator you have alot better chance to run cooler, just my thought

i run a 3500 stall, and its just fine. as stated above , run a good cooler w/ any stall converter. in addition to that though, if you drive the car on cold days, it's a good idea to run the factory (radiator) cooler in series w/ the auxillary cooler.

With a 26" tire and 3.55 gears I run 62mph at 3000 rpm. Your 70mph figure looks a little hight to me.

BTW - I run a 3000 stall and 3.55 gears (obviously) and like the combo. A 3.55 gear is about the max I would run with a 26" tire if you plan any freeway driving at all since my max cruise speed is about 65. Unless I put on the taller tires - then I can cruise at 70.
